Rugby Championship – Corporate Hospitality Packages Available for Argentina v Australia at Twickenham
The Rugby Championship is the leading international competition for the Southern Hemisphere with fixtures between Argentina, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. The competition is renowned for its fast-paced, hard-hitting and high scoring encounters – and fans at Twickenham will be hoping for more of the same when Argentina face Australia.
The Rugby Championship was formerly known as the Tri-Nations, which first took place in 1996; featuring Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. But on the back of their magical run to the semi-finals of the 2007 World Cup, there were calls for Argentina to be included in the competition.
Finally in 2012 Argentina were invited to join the other SANZAR sides and The Rugby Championship was born.
Since its inception the New Zealand All Blacks have dominated The Rugby Championship winning three of the four competitions (victories coming in 2012, 2013 and 2014). In 2015 Australia broke the New Zealand stranglehold on the competition as Michael Cheika guided The Wallabies to a maiden Rugby Championship crown.
New Zealand’s record in The Rugby Championship is quite remarkable with 18 wins from 21 matches and just two losses. With South Africa and Australia securing 10 wins and Argentina just two (but that doesn’t reflect their level of play or efforts in the four years).
Year | Winner | Games Played | Games Won | Games Drawn | Games Lost | Table Points |
2012 | New Zealand | 6 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 26 |
2013 | New Zealand | 6 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 28 |
2014 | New Zealand | 6 | 4 | 1 | 1 | 22 |
2015 | Australia | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 13 |
In 2016 Argentina v Australia will be the first-ever fixture in either the Tri-Nations or Rugby Championship to take place outside of the Southern Hemisphere (fixtures have previously been held in Hong Kong). Twickenham is the world’s premier international rugby venue and is likely to be sold out for this historic event.
