2024 Autumn Nations Series: Week Two Preview
The second week of action in the 2024 Autumn Nations Series will get underway on Friday, and here we look ahead at the matches with particular focus on the most high profile clashes.
Following a thrilling first weekend of action in the 2024 Autumn Nations Series, all eyes are now on the second round of action, which will see several enthralling matches taking place across the continent of Europe, starting on Friday 8th November 2024.
The first action of the Series saw four nations take part – Steve Borthwick’s England, Scott Robertson’s New Zealand, Gregor Townsend’s Scotland, and Mick Byrne’s Fiji. The matches saw England take on the All Blacks at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, whilst Scotland went face to face with Fiji at Murrayfield in Edinburgh.
In the end, England was on the end of a narrow 22 – 24 defeat against New Zealand, whilst Scotland was able to come away from their game as emphatic 57 – 17 winners against Fiji.
Borthwick’s England will be looking to return to winning ways and build on the positives from the All Blacks game, whilst Townsend and Scotland will be targeting a second win in a row.
In this round of fixtures, all nations taking part in the 2024 Autumn Nations Series (Ireland, New Zealand, England, Australia, Italy, Argentina, France, Japan, Wales, Fiji, Scotland & South Africa) will be playing, and here we take a look ahead at the games to come, with particular focus on the most high profile matches.
Ireland vs. New Zealand – Friday 8th November 2024 – (Aviva Stadium, Dublin, 20:10 KO)
We start with the game that will get week two of the 2024 Autumn Nations Series underway, which will see two titans of international rugby go head to head. Ireland and New Zealand will meet at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on Friday 8th November 2024, with the game getting underway at 20:10.
Ireland are currently top of the World Rankings with 92.12 points, and they are the current Six Nations Champions having beaten Scotland 17 – 13. They were also able to beat the mighty South Africa twice during their tour of the country, winning 27 – 20 in the first game before coming away as 24 – 25 winners in the second match.
As for New Zealand, the All Blacks are 3rd in the World Rankings with a total of 89.67 points to their name. They reached the Final of the most recent World Cup in 2023, which is a competition that they have won on three occasions in total, most recently in 2015. They have also recently secured significant victories against England (22 – 24), Australia twice (28 – 31 & 33 – 13), and South Africa (18 – 12).
Ireland and New Zealand most recently met in a competitive fixture in the 2023 Rugby World Cup, when New Zealand came away as 24 – 28 victors in front of a 78,845 strong crowd at the Stade de France in Paris.
Ireland’s most recent victory against the All Blacks came in their 2022 Tour of New Zealand when they were able to beat their hosts 22 – 32 at the Wellington Regional Stadium with 38,000 in attendance.
England vs. Australia – Saturday 9th November 2024 – (Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, 15:10 KO)
We now move on to the high profile game between Steve Borthwick’s England and Joe Schmidt’s Australia at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham on Saturday 9th November 2024. The kick-off for this game will be at 15:10pm that afternoon.
Hosts England are currently sitting 5th in the Rugby World Rankings with 84.43 points, whilst the Wallabies are a few places below them in 9th as things stand, with 79.32 points to their name in total as of the time of writing.
Both of these teams will be getting back to winning ways. Australia were recently defeated 33 – 13 by rivals New Zealand in late September, whilst England narrowly lost 22 – 23 to the All Blacks in their opening Autumn Nations Series Game. Borthwick’s side did play well, and were perhaps unlucky in defeat – they will be looking to take all of the positives into this game against the Wallabies.
These two sides last met on England’s Tour of Australia back in 2022, beating their hosts 17 – 21 in Sydney just a week after securing a 17 – 25 win against Australia in Brisbane. England have won 10 of their last 11 competitive meetings with the Wallabies, and they will be looking to extend this unbeaten run when they meet on Saturday afternoon.
Scotland vs. South Africa – Sunday 10th November 2024 – (Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh, 16:10 KO)
Another high profile tie in the second week of the 2024 Autumn Nations Series will see Scotland take on South Africa at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, with game kicking off at 16:10pm that afternoon.
This tie at Murrayfield will see sides ranked 7th and 2nd in the world at the moment go toe to toe in what promises to be an enthralling encounter. Scotland, after five wins from their last five games in all competitions, will be taking on South Africa, who are the reigning World Champions.
The two sides last met on 10th September 2023 during that year’s Rugby World Cup at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France. It was to be an 18 – 3 victory for South Africa that day.
Scotland’s most recent competitive victory against South Africa was in the 2010 Autumn Internationals at Murrayfield when Scotland were 21 – 17 winners on that occasion.
Other Week 2 Fixtures

- France vs. Japan – Saturday 9th November 2024 (Stade de France, Paris, 20:10 UK Time): This will be an entertaining tie, with France perhaps the favourites following four wins from their last five games in all competitions, whilst also being ranked 4th in the world as things stand.
