The acclaimed and widely popular Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra is set to take to the Floating Stage alongside their very special guest in the form of the multi-award-winning solo artist Laura Mvula at the 2026 iteration of the prestigious and iconic annual Henley Festival. The Jazz Orchestra hails from the famous Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, which has been open since 1959, whilst Mvula has been going from strength to strength since signing her first record deal in 2012.
They will both be performing at this year’s Henley Festival on the evening of what is the fifth and final day of the event on Sunday, 12th July 2026, with the performance taking place promptly from 7pm. The performance is being directed by the acclaimed solo Jazz performer Pete Long.
The aforementioned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, home to its Jazz Orchestra, is based in Soho, London, where it has been since opening in 1959. It was founded by Ronnie Scott and Pete King, and it was the first Jazz Club in the entire United Kingdom to have regularly hosted some of the biggest names in American Jazz such as Miles Davis, Nina Simone Ella Fitzgerald, and Chet Baker, whilst it has also hosted other big names from the world of music such as Jimi Hendrix, Prince, and Amy Winehouse.
The aforementioned Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra is a virtuoso ensemble with great solo contributions from all sections of the band, which always make for memorable performances over the years.
As previously mentioned, they will be joined by a special guest, the multi-award-winning and critically acclaimed solo artist Laura Mvula, who hails from Birmingham.
Since signing her first record deal with RCA Records in 2012, Mvula has gone on to win two MOBO Awards for Best Female Act and for the Best R&B/Soul Act back in 2013, as well as the Best Female Act at the Urban Music Awards in the same year.
More recently, she won the Popjustice £20 Music Prize for Best British Pop Single for her track ‘Got Me’ back in 2021.
Mvula has also been nominated for the BRIT Awards on a number of occasions, and all three of her albums to date have been nominated for the Mercury Prize, an incredible and rare feat in the history of these prestigious awards.
Aside from her career as a singer-songwriter, Laura Mvula has also composed and arranged for orchestral and choral groups. She created works for the iconic BBC Proms and has also composed music for the 2017 adaptation of ‘Anthony and Cleopatra’ by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) and for the 2023 Netflix series ‘Everything Now’.
To date, Mvula has released three studio albums. The first was ‘Sing to the Moon’, released on 4th March 2013. It reached 9th spot in the UK albums chart, and it also peaked at number 1 in the UK R&B chart. It also earned her two MOBO awards and a Mercury Prize nomination.
The next album was released a few years later on 17th June 2016, and it was called ‘The Dreaming Room’. In the UK album chart, it reached 21st place, whilst in the United Kingdom’s R&B Chart it peaked at 3rd. It won the Ivor Novello Award and was also nominated for the Mercury Prize.
Then, Laura Mvula’s most recent studio album, ‘Pink Noise’, was released on 2nd July 2021 and won the 2022 Ivor Novello Award for Best Album. The year before, it had also been nominated for the Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. In the charts, Mvula’s ‘Pink Noise’ got as high as 21st in the UK Albums Chart, before then peaking in 1st place in the UK R&B charts as well.
Laura Mvula has also performed at the iconic Glastonbury Performance three times, in 2013, 2016, and 2023.
