England Squad Shake-Up

England’s preparations for the Ashes against Australia next year are set to continue soon, and there is set to be a new pace attack for the Three Lions.

There is a plethora of cricket action to come for England over the coming months, and all of this will be in preparation for the crucial Ashes test against rivals Australia next year. With James Anderson set to retire after the Three Lions’ first summer test series of 2024, a new pace attack is set to take shape soon.

Not only will England lose Anderson, they will be losing another highly experienced player in the form of Stuart Broad before the next Ashes series due to retirement. Both of these will be big blows to England, but there are several candidates to make up a new pace attack as England looks to prepare well ahead of the Ashes before they look to take on Australia in 2025.

The Three Lions are set to take part in several matches over the course of the summer in 2024. Next up for the team is a T20 Test Series against Pakistan (22nd to 30th May) before taking on Scotland, Australia, Oman, and Namibia in the World T20 World Cup Group Stages between Tuesday 4th, and Saturday 15th June 2024.

The West Indies are then the next opponents in a Test Series between 10th and 30th July 2024 before another test series, this time against Sri Lanka from 21st August to 10th September this year.

Australia are then next in the T20 Test Series in England from the 11th to 15th of September. These two rival nations then meet once again in five One Day Internationals between the 21st and 29th September 2024.

Then comes an ODI Series against the West Indies (31st October to 6th November), the two nations then meet again between 9th November and 17th November in a T20 Series. A Test Series against New Zealand then comes next between 27th November and 18th December.

This is the final England fixture of 2024. Preparation for the next Ashes Series then continues with a one-off test against Zimbabwe between 28th and 31st May 2025.

As mentioned before there are set to be changes to the Three Lions’ team as they prepare for the Ashes next year, and there are going to be changes in England’s pace attack.

There are a number of players that are seen as strong candidates to be picked Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes.

Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, and Ollie Robinson are three more experienced candidates. Starting with Wood, the bowler can reach speeds of no less than 90mph and has taken 26 wickets for his country with Captain Stokes and McCullum at the helm.

As for Woakes, he impressed against Australia in the 2023 Ashes Series with his 19 wickets. Finally, Robinson took 37 wickets in 11 tests with Stokes and McCullum in charge.

Other players that are seen as having a chance include the likes of Nottinghamshire’s Dillon Pennington, Lancashire’s Saqib Mahmood, and Sussex’s Jofra Archer.

Starting with Archer, he looks likely to be included thanks to his ability and experience, and he has recently returned from injury. As for Pennington, he has taken 13 of his 15 wickets to date with the new ball. Finally, Mahmood he, just like Archer has recently returned from injury, and he is a candidate for England thanks to his ability to bowl at more than 80 miles per hour throughout an inning.

It will certainly be interesting who Captain Ben Stokes and Head Coach Brendon McCullum pick for England as they prepare for the upcoming Ashes Series with Australia next year.

Excitement and anticipation are building as England face several high profile nations as they continue to prepare for the Ashes this year.
