England did though win the next two after that in 1893 and 1894/95 1 – 0 and 3 – 2 respectively, Australia did regain the Ashes in 1897/98, where they won 4 – 1.
There have been some iconic Ashes Test Matches over the years. The second match of the 2005 series at Edgbaston is arguably the most memorable of the lot, where Andrew Flintoff and Steve Harmison amongst the stars of the show for England.
After the hosts had amassed a lead of 99 at the conclusion of the first innings. However, unfortunately for England, once the third innings had ended, Shane Warne had managed to inspire Australia to set a target of 282 if England wanted to make it 2 – 0 in the Series overall.
The tourists were reduced to 137 – 7 by the hosts, who looked set for victory. Shane Warne and Brett Lee scored 42 and 43 respectively to put their team within just 3 runs of victory. Thankfully for England, after a succession of poor deliveries from Steve Harmison, the ball eventually found its way into the hands of Geraint Jones to seal the victory for hosts England.
The most recent Ashes Series between England and Australia took place back in 2023, with all five tests taking place across the country, with host venues including The Oval, Old Trafford, Headingley, Lord’s, and Edgbaston. The series was a draw in the end.

The stalemate made it certain that Australia would retain the Ashes.
A series draw was assured when England were able to beat Australia at the Oval by 49 runs. England would however have been encouraged by the spirit and determination that they showed in coming from 2 – 0 down to draw the series overall at 2 – 2.
