Arsenal and newly promoted Burnley will compete for all three points at the Emirates Stadium in the 2023/24 season. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal put together a strong title challenge last season only to lose out to Manchester City by a narrow margin of just 5 points. The Gunners will look to go one better this time around. Meanwhile, Vincent Kompany’s Burnley enjoyed a stellar Championship season finishing as Champions with no less than 101 points.
In December 2019, Mikel Arteta became Unai Emery’s permanent successor at Arsenal. During his time with the club, he has built a strong team that has won silverware – the FA Cup was won in the 2019/20 season, which was followed by the Community Shield in the following season. After a 5th place finish in 2021/22, this was followed up with a return to the Champions League after finishing 2nd last season (2022/23).
Following Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League, Vincent Kompany took charge ahead of the start of last season. Kompany’s Clarets were the outstanding side in the Championship, winning 29 of their 46 games, winning the league title with 101 points to their name. The Belgian Head Coach will be looking to lead his side to Premier League safety this season.
Arsenal and Burnley have met 113 times to date. They first met in the FA Cup in February 1896, and it is the Gunners who have the best record with 55 wins as opposed to the Clarets’ 34. There have been just 24 draws between these two teams over the years.
The most recent match played between these two clubs was on 23rd January 2022 when the two teams played out a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners did win their first meeting of the 2021/22 season at Turf Moor 1-0, thanks to a goal from Martin Ødegaard in the first half (30’).
Arsenal did push Manchester City all the way in the race for the Premier League title last season, but unfortunately for the Gunners they had to settle for 2nd place. They did, however secure a return to Champions League football. Meanwhile, Burnley won the Championship title after accumulating 101 points in 46 league matches.
This match between Arsenal and Burnley is set to be a fascinating and enthralling contest, with both clubs also looking to realise their ambitions for the 2023/24 Premier League season.
