A famous and long standing rivalry will be renewed once more when Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal take on Chelsea, who are led by their Italian Head Coach Enzo Maresca. This game will be taking place at the iconic Emirates Stadium in the heart of North London during the 2025/26 Premier League season. Both sides will be looking to challenge for the title this term, making this an even more crucial game for the Gunners and for the Blues as well.

Victory in this game for Arsenal will not only give them the three points that could put them a step closer to the title, it would also hand them bragging rights over Chelsea in what would be a significant victory for a number of reasons for the Gunners.

Back in October 2019, it was Mikel Arteta who became Unai Emery’s permanent successor at the North London Club following a short interim spell with Freddie Ljungberg. In the 2022/23 season, Arsenal did challenge for the Premier League title, earning what was a grand total of 84 points, which saw them finish as the runners-up after finishing just 5 points behind that season’s title winners Manchester City.

Then in the following season, 2023/24, Arsenal were in another enthralling title race that saw them finish in second place once again, this time only by a very slim margin of just 2 points with them having earned a total of 89 points throughout their 38 game season in the English Top Flight. The Champions on that occasion was Manchester City once again.

Last season, 2024/25, Arsenal came second for what was the third season in succession, this time earning a total of 74 points from their games that season, with the Champions that season being Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

As for Chelsea, their Head Coach Enzo Maresca has been in charge since he was named as the successor to Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge back on 3rd June 2024, leaving Leicester City to join the Blues just ahead of last season. The 2024/25 season was his first full campaign in charge, and it saw Chelsea secure a return to the UEFA Champions League thanks to a fourth place finish with 69 points to their name after 38 matches.

Arsenal were victorious the last time that these two clubs met in all competitions, with Mikel Arteta’s Gunners emerging as 1 – 0 winners in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium back on 16th March 2025. It was Spanish international midfielder Mikel Merino who scored the winning goal with just twenty minutes having gone in the game in the first half of that match in North London.

Overall, Arsenal and Chelsea have gone head to head in a competitive match in all competitions on 211 occasions in total, and it is the Gunners who have the most wins with 85, whilst the Blues currently have 66 to their name to date, as of the time of writing. There have also been a total of 60 draws between these two teams.
