Arsenal v Manchester United is one of those fixtures in a season that catches the imagination of football fans across the country and the world. Mikel Arteta’s Gunners will be looking for a crucial win against Erik Ten Hag’s Red Devils in the 2024/25 Premier League season as they look to become English Champions for the first time since the invincibles season.

Arsenal finished second in the 2023/24 season for the second consecutive year, with just two points separating them from league winners Manchester City. North London will look to close this gap at the very least as they look to finally complete their quest to win the Premier League title.

Ten Hag also led the Red Devils to a League Cup triumph in the 2022/23 season, beating Newcastle United 2 – 0 in the final thanks to goals from Casemiro (33’) and Marcus Rashford (39’).

United got knocked out of the Champions League at the Group Stages and finished 8th, just outside the European places, with 60 points to their name. In the end, just goal difference separated them from Newcastle United, who finished in 7th place.

There have been a number of particularly memorable matches played between Arsenal and Manchester United over the years. We will start with Arsenal’s 1 – 0 win at Old Trafford in 2002, which saw a Sylvian Wiltord goal early in the second half (56’) seal the 2001/02 Premier League title for Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.

Another iconic match between these two teams also took place at Old Trafford in 1998. After being no less than 12 points adrift of United at the top, a run of ten wins in a row put their title challenge firmly back on track. A 1 – 0 win at Old Trafford, courtesy of a Marc Overmars goal (79’) saw this gap reduced to just 6. The Gunners did of course go on to win the 1997/98 title.

Arsenal and Manchester United have played against each other competitively on a total of 240 occasions over the years. The Red Devils have the most wins so far in this fixture, with 101, compared to 89 for the Gunners. There have been 50 draws between these two Premier League heavyweights to date.
