Aston Villa, led by their Spanish Head Coach Unai Emery, are going to be taking on an Arsenal side led by fellow Spaniard Mikel Arteta when the two clubs meet face to face in the heart of Birmingham at the iconic and historic Villa Park during the 2025/26 Premier League season. Victory for Villa would see them edge closer to securing a place in the highly coveted UEFA Champions League for the second time in three seasons.
The Villans will be hoping to get revenge on the Gunners, with the North London having been the only side who were able to beat Villa in B6 last season in what was also Villa’s first home game of last term. The atmosphere for this game promises to be incredible, with the game set to be enthralling and highly competitive as well.
After very narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification, Emery’s side will look to return to European Club Football’s Premier Cup Competition in this current campaign with a top four finish. And, as a result, all three points would give the Villans a significant boost in the fiercely contested race for these much coveted spots in the English Top Flight. Victory against Arteta’s Gunners would also be a statement victory for the Villa.
Current Aston Villa Head Coach Unai Emery has been in charge of the West Midlands based club ever since he was named as Steven Gerrard’s permanent successor back in November 2022 with the club sitting very narrowly above the bottom three. Once he took charge, the Spaniard has completely transformed the club’s fortunes.
By the end of the 2022/23 campaign, Emery had managed to guide Villa to European Qualification, securing themselves a place in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
In the season that followed this (2023/24), Villa got themselves all the way to the Conference League Semi Finals, when they were knocked out of the competition over two legs by eventual winners Olympiacos. On a much more positive note, Aston Villa did manage to successfully qualify for the highly coveted UEFA Champions League by achieving a 4th place finish after working to earn a grand total of 68 points from their 38 matches in the English Top Flight that year.
Last season, Aston Villa did well in the Champions League, beating the likes of Bayern Munich and Celtic in the League Phase, as well as beating Belgian Giants Club Brugge 6 – 1 on aggregate over the two legs in the Round of 16, which secured them a spot in the Quarter Finals, where they were drawn against French Champions and one of the tournament’s favourites, Paris Saint Germain.
PSG were able to beat Villa 5 – 4 over two legs, but Villa did manage to beat the Parisian Giants 3 – 2 at Villa Park thanks to goals from the likes of Youri Tielemans (34’), John McGinn (55’) and Ezri Konsa (57’), which came after the Villans initially went two goals down following goals from Achraf Hakimi (11’) and Nuno Mendes (27’) for the visitors that night.
In the 2024/25 Premier League, Villa went on to secure UEFA Europa League Football for the 2025/26 season thanks to what was a very creditable 6th place finish after having earned a total of 66 points from their 38 matches.
As for Arsenal, Mikel Arteta is looking to lead the Gunners to a 14th English Top Flight title, and what would be their third title triumph in the Premier League era. The North London Club has finished as runners-up in second place in all of the last three seasons, and they will be hoping to take the next step and get their hands on the Premier League title this season.
The 2022/23 campaign saw them earn 84 points and lose out on the title to Manchester City by a margin that was just five points, before doing so again in the following season, 2023/24, this time losing out to Pep Guardiola’s City team by just two points after earning 89 points from their 38 matches.
Finally, in the most recent season, they finished in second again, this time with a total of 74 points to their name overall. This time they were to miss out on the title thanks to a superb Premier League debut campaign for Arne Slot, who was able to lead them to a 20th top flight title, and a second ever title win in the Premier League era to date.
Overall, Aston Villa and Arsenal have gone head to head in a competitive competition on a total of 205 occasions over the years, and it is the Gunners who have the better record of 88 victories in this fixture to date compared with Villa’s total of 71 so far, as of the time of writing. There have also been 46 draws between these two sides over the years.
