A rivalry is set to be finally renewed when Unai Emery’s Aston Villa take on Gary O’Neil’s Wolves in what is to be a fierce local derby, which is to be played at Villa Park in the 2024/25 Premier League season. A win and the three points it offers will earn them bragging rights and bring Villa closer to their goal of UEFA Champions League Qualification for the second successive season.

Since his appointment to succeed Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa, Unai Emery has led a revolution, and the club is currently going from strength to strength. His first full season in charge of the West Midlands Club saw them beat Manchester City 1 – 0 at home, earning bragging rights with a 2 – 0 victory in an FA Cup tie against Black Country Rivals West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

Wolves finished 14th place at the end of last season (2023/24), accumulating 46 points from 38 matches in the English top flight last term.

These two clubs have played head-to-head in all competitions on 136 occasions to date, and Villa has a superior record of 57 victories compared to Wolves’ total of 44. There have been 35 draws between these two West Midlands rivals so far.
