Enzo Maresca and his Chelsea side will face Russell Martin’s newly promoted Southampton team at Stamford Bridge in the 2024/25 Premier League season. Some stellar form towards the end of last season has provided the fans with fresh optimism coming into what they hope to be a successful season with a finish in the upper reaches of the table firmly in sight for the Blues.

This was achieved with now-former Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino, who was dismissed from his post at the Blues following the conclusion of last season. The man chosen to succeed him is Enzo Maresca, who used to be a member of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City and was most recently the Manager of Leicester City.

During his time in charge of Leicester, the Italian led the Foxes to the EFL Championship league title after his side accumulated no less than 97 points from their 46 matches to earn an immediate return to the top table of English Football. He now comes to the Blues to lead a charge up that Premier League table.

Moving on to Southampton, Russell Martin left Swansea City to take charge of the Saints back on 21st June 2023, shortly after their relegation from the Premier League. Martin managed to guide the South Coast club to an instant return to the top flight after they won the EFL Championship Play-Off Final under the arch at the iconic Wembley Stadium thanks to a 1 – 0 win against Leeds United. This followed a 4th-place finish with a total of 87 points at the end of the main part of the season.

These two clubs have met each other in a competitive fixture 113 times over the years in all competitions, and the Blues have the superior record of 49 wins compared to the Saints’ total of 33 to date. As of the time of writing, these two clubs have played 31 draws in all against each other over the years.

Chelsea and Southampton are set to go toe to toe at Stamford Bridge in the 2024/25 Premier League season.
