Everton and Brentford will meet at Goodison Park for the Premier League fixture 2023/24, where three points will boost either side’s hopes of realising their ambitions this season. Sean Dyche will want to beat the drop and climb the Premier League table, whereas Thomas Frank’s Bees will look to challenge for European football once again.
With the Toffees sitting in 19th place with 15 points, the club dismissed Frank Lampard before replacing him with ex-Burnley boss Sean Dyche in January 2023. He led the club to safety with a 17th place finish following a 1 – 0 win against Bournemouth on the final day of the 2022/23 season at Goodison Park. A spectacular Abdoulaye Doucouré goal (57′) secured the club’s Premier League status.
Some tremendous results were achieved along the way, including a 1-0 win over Arsenal and an emphatic 5 – 1 away win against Roberto De Zerbi’s high-flying Brighton & Hove Albion side.
With seven goals in the league, Dwight McNeil was Everton’s leading scorer last term, followed by Abdoulaye Doucouré and Demarai Gray, who scored 5 and 4 goals, respectively.
Brentford had a stellar season in 2022/23, as for much of the season, they were one of the clubs challenging for European football before settling for a 9th place finish after accumulating 59 points in 38 matches. Thomas Frank is the current Bees Head Coach, and he has been at the club since October 2018, succeeding Dean Smith, who had departed for Aston Villa.
By the conclusion of his first season in charge, Frank led the club to an 11th place finish in the Championship before finding themselves in the promotion play-offs the following season (2019/20). Unfortunately, the Bees lost 2-1 to Fulham at Wembley.
Promotion was finally secured after a 2-0 win against Swansea City in the 2020/21 Play-Off Final.
Head Coach Thomas Frank guided the club to a comfortable 13th place finish in their first ever Premier League season with a margin of 11 points separating themselves and an instant return to the Championship. As mentioned, the Bees finished 9th last season (2022/23).
Ivan Toney’s 20 league goals made him Brentford’s top scorer in the Premier League last term, followed by Bryan Mbeumo with nine goals. Yoane Wissa and Mathias Jensen scored 7 and 5 goals, respectively.
The first league match between Everton and Brentford occurred on 10th April 1936 at Goodison Park. The Bees have won 10 of 22 meetings, with the Blues narrowly behind with 9. There have been three draws between these two clubs.
Everton won their most recent match against Brentford 1-0 in the Premier League on 11th March 2023 courtesy of a Dwight McNeil goal in the game’s opening minutes (1′).
