Led by the experienced David Moyes, Everton finished last season in 13th. Despite finishing in the bottom half, the Toffees were in the race for European qualification throughout the campaign and narrowly missed out by just four points.
The aim this year will be to go one step further and qualify to play on the continental stage and face some of Europe’s elite at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the very first time.
Everton boasts some of the most exciting talent in the country, with the likes of Iliman N’Diaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jordan Pickford and James Garner being some of their key men.
N’Diaye and Dewsbury-Hall recorded 23 goal contributions between them in all competitions last season and will once again be key to Everton’s hopes of a successful season.
This will be Moyes’ 21st season in charge of a Premier League side after previous spells at Sunderland, West Ham United, Manchester United and his first spell at Everton, which spanned from 2001 – 2012.
Ipswich Town’s 2025/26 season was a strange one to live through, but it ended in exactly the right place.
After relegation from the Premier League, there was a clear sense of change at Portman Road. The squad looked different almost immediately, with only a small core remaining from the group that had achieved back-to-back promotions. Players like Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson moved on, and it felt less like a continuation and more like starting again.
Kieran McKenna stayed in charge, and that continuity mattered. Coming into management after coaching roles at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, he had already delivered two promotions with Ipswich. This season, though, was about rebuilding rather than riding momentum.
The early weeks were uneven. Ipswich did not quite click, with a mix of draws, narrow defeats, and an EFL Cup exit to Bromley that summed up the frustration around the club at the time. There was no panic, but there was clearly work to do.
The turning point came with the 5 0 win over Sheffield United in September. It did not fix everything overnight, but it changed the feeling around the team. Confidence started to return and performances became more consistent.
The derby wins over Norwich City also stood out. Those games gave the fans something to latch onto and you could feel the mood shift around the club on those days.
From there, Ipswich slowly climbed into a stronger position. They became harder to beat, more controlled in games, and better at managing pressure.
On 2nd May, it all came together with a 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Portman Road, sealing promotion back to the Premier League.
Overall, these two clubs have gone head-to-head in competitive fixtures across all competitions on 61 occasions, and it is the hosts who have the superior record, with 26 victories compared to the Tractor Boys’ 15. The pair have also shared the spoils 20 times.
