Everton will welcome Manchester City to Goodison Park when the two clubs meet in the 2023/24 Premier League season. Sean Dyche’s team will look to distance themselves from the relegation battle as much as possible this season and climb the table. Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens can secure an unprecedented fourth consecutive Premier League title this term.
Following Frank Lampard’s departure from Everton, Sean Dyche was appointed as his permanent successor as Head Coach in January 2023, with the Toffees sitting in 19th place with 15 points. They were still in touching distance of safety, though, with just 2 points separating themselves and Wolves in 17th. Dyche’s reign at Goodison Park got off to the best possible start when the Toffees were able to beat then-league leaders Arsenal 1 – 0 thanks to a James Tarkowski goal with 30 minutes of the match remaining.
Further significant wins followed, emphatically beating Brighton 5-1 away from home was the first with Abdoulaye Doucouré, Dwight McNeil and a Jason Steele own goal sealing a stunning victory for the away side. The other particularly standout win came on the final day when they were 1-0 winners against Bournemouth, which saw them avoid a first campaign in the second tier for almost 70 years.
Dwight McNeil was the Toffees’ leading scorer in the Premier League in the 2022/23 season with seven goals, while Abdoulaye Doucouré and Demarai Gray got 5 and 4 goals, respectively.
Following the dismissal of Manuel Pellegrini, former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich Head Coach Pep Guardiola was appointed as the Chilean’s successor at the Etihad Stadium in 2016. Over his nearly ten years at the club, the Spaniard has led the Cityzens to more than ten trophies: 5 Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22 & 2022/23), 2 FA Cups (2018/19 & 2022/23), 4 EFL Cups (2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20 & 2020/21), 2 Community Shields (2018 & 2019) and 1 UEFA Champions League (2022/23).
Guardiola guided City to their maiden and historic Champions League/European Cup victory in Budapest after beating Italian Giants Inter Milan 1-0 in the final thanks to an unstoppable Rodri goal in the second half (68’).
Erling Haaland was Manchester City’s and the Premier League’s top scorer last term, with no less than 36 goals. The Norwegian was also the leading scorer in the Champions League with 12 goals.
Everton and Manchester City met in the league for the first time on 23rd December 1899 at Hyde Road, where the Toffees won 2-1. Jimmy Settle and Billy Meredith scored the goals for the away side that day. In their 195 meetings, City has the most wins with 79 compared to the Toffees’ 68. There have been 48 draws between these two clubs.
The most recent match to have taken place between these two teams took place on 14th May 2023 in the Premier League when Manchester City were able to beat Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park.
