David Moyes’ Everton is set to take on a Manchester United side led by their Portuguese Head Coach Ruben Amorim, with this game set to be played at the all-new and modern Hill Dickinson Stadium in the heart of Merseyside, which is the new home for the Toffees. This game promises to be spectacular and competitive, with it set to take place during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
This season will see the Toffees aiming for a solid and very respectable mid table finish in the league following the campaign’s conclusion, though they may even look to finish higher than this and end up in the top half by the time all 38 games have been played in the English Top Flight this term. Victory would take them a step closer to achieving their ambitions for the season.
This will, of course, be the very first time that Everton and Manchester United will have ever met since the Blues left Goodison Park following the end of last season. They will go head to head at the aforementioned Hill Dickinson Stadium, which currently has a capacity of 52,769 people or more. There is sure to be a great atmosphere, but that’s not all; the game itself promises to be enthralling.
The current Head Coach of Everton Football Club is, of course, David Moyes, who is enjoying his second spell in charge with it being 12 years since he left the club to conclude his first tenure at the club back in 2013, which was when he had left the Toffees to move to Manchester United as a replacement of Sir Alex Ferguson. His first era at the club lasted for 11 years between 2002 and 2013, and he looks to make his second era in charge even better than before.
During the more than a decade in his first stint at the club, he managed several iconic players to have worn the famous blue of Everton. Such enemies include, but are not limited to the likes of Tim Cahill, Wayne Rooney, David Unsworth, Thomas Gravesen, Tim Howard, Yakubu, Steven Pienaar, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, as well as many more.
During his absence from Everton, Moyes managed various clubs, both in the UK and abroad. He managed the likes of Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and Sunderland, as well as two spells at West Ham United. In his second spell with the Hammers, he led them to a European Trophy, which was when his side were able to beat Italian Serie A side Fiorentina, winning 2 – 1 in the 2024 UEFA Conference League thanks to goals from the likes of Benrahma (62’ – Penalty) and Jarrod Bowen (90’). It was Giacomo Bonaventura who scored the only goal for La Viola on that day midway through the second half (67’).
David Moyes’ return to Everton Football Club came on Saturday 11th January 2025, with him becoming the successor to the departing Sean Dyche at the Merseyside Club. In his first few months in charge, they were able to clear a significant distance from any relegation battle, going on to finish comfortably mid-table. They secured an excellent and respectable 13th place finish with a total of 42 points after playing 38 games. They ended up 17 clear of the relegation zone in the end following eight games in charge.
Moving on to Manchester United, their Head Coach Ruben Amorim, has been in charge of the club ever since he succeeded his Dutch counterpart Erik Ten Hag back on 1st November 2024.
In the remainder of the 2024/25 season, United finished in 15th place, earning a total of 42 points from their 38 league games. They also reached the 2025 UEFA Europa League Final, where they lost 1 – 0 to fellow Premier League club Spurs.
The last time that these two clubs met competitively in a match in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Saturday 22nd February 2025 at Goodison Park in what was a highly competitive and enthralling 2 – 2 draw between them. The goal scorers in this game were Beto (19’) and Abdoulaye Doucoure (33’) for Everton, whilst for Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes (72’) and Manuel Ugarte (80’), with both goals coming in the second half.
Overall, Everton and Manchester United have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 215 occasions, and it is United who currently have a superior record of 96 victories compared with 71 for the Blues so far. There have been, as of the time of writing, 48 draws between the Toffees and the Red Devils to date.
