Marco Silva’s Fulham and Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are set to go toe to toe in what is the latest chapter in what is a long-standing and fierce local rivalry in West London. These two sides are set to go head to head in the heart of West London at the iconic and historic Craven Cottage during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
This year, Fulham are seeking qualification for European Football, and to do this through the league, they will have to finish in the top seven; they will feel that they are one of the clubs with a strong chance of doing so. If they did, they would secure their first season on the European stage since the 2011/12 season, when they competed in the UEFA Europa League.
Before getting to the group stages, the Cottagers had to get through several qualifying rounds – four in all – where they were able to get the better of several teams from across the European continent, with victories coming against the likes of NSI Runavik (Faroe Islands, 3 – 0 agg.), Crusaders (Northern Ireland, 7 – 1 agg.), RNK Split (Croatia, 2 – 0 agg.), and finally Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk (Ukraine, 3 – 1 agg).
Fulham then found themselves in the Group Stages of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League competition, but they were eventually unfortunately knocked out at this point in the competition after finishing down in third place in their group, even following victories against the likes Denmark’s Odense away from home, as well as Polish outfit Wisla Krakow at Craven Cottage. These teams were both beaten 2 – 0 and 4 – 1 respectively. Fulham will be determined to secure themselves another European campaign for next season.
We now return to Marco Silva’s first full season in charge of Fulham, which was the 2021/22 campaign in the English Second Tier, more commonly known as the EFL Championship. In this campaign, the Portuguese boss managed to lead them to automatic promotion back up into the Premier League, which came after they won the Championship title with no less than 90 points to their name, with them having found the back of the net more than a hundred times, scoring what was a total of no less than 106 goals in all.
The 2024/25 campaign was Fulham’s most recent season in charge for Head Coach Marco Silva, who managed to lead them to a very credible points total of no less than 54, but they were to end up being 11 points adrift of the European places, with them finishing outside of the top seven in 11th place with them having accumulated a grand total of 54 points from their 38 games in the English top flight.
Moving on to Chelsea, they have had their current Head Coach, Enzo Maresca, in charge ever since the Italian was appointed as the Blues’ Boss back on June 3, 2024, with the 2024/25 campaign being his first in charge of the club.
They finished up in 4th place in the end last term, which saw them qualify for the UEFA Champions League after having been absent from the competition since the 2022/23 season when they reached the Quarter Finals. They had accumulated a total of 69 points from their 38 games in the league.
The last time that Fulham was able to beat Chelsea in all competitions was in their first competitive contest of the 2024/25 season at Stamford Bridge back on Thursday 26th December 2024, when the Cottagers were able to come away as 2 – 1 winners thanks to the goals from the likes of Harry Wilson (82’) and Rodrigo Muniz late on in the second half, with Brazilian forward Muniz scoring the dramatic, last minute winning goal in this game deep into second half stoppage time (90+5’). The only goal of the game for Chelsea came from an effort by Cole Palmer early on in the first half to give the Blues what was an initial lead at the Bridge (16’).
Overall, Fulham and Chelsea have met competitively in all competitions on a grand total of no less than 93 occasions, and it is the Blues who have the superior record, with 53 victories compared to Fulham’s 13 so far. The Cottagers have been involved in 27 draws with the Blues over the years to date, as of the time of writing.
