Arne Slot’s Liverpool and Scott Parker’s newly promoted Burnley side are set to face each other on Merseyside, as they go toe to toe at the historic and iconic Anfield during the much-anticipated 2025/26 Premier League season. The Reds will be able to edge ever closer to getting their hands on a second consecutive English top flight title with a victory against the Clarets.
The Reds have had plenty of momentum and great form over recent years and will know that this will be important for their title bid this season, as they look to become the club with the most ever top-flight league titles in English football with a 21st triumph this year. A victory against the Clarets would really help their momentum going into the remainder of the campaign.
Jürgen Klopp departed Liverpool after the 2023/24 season, and it was the Dutchman Arne Slot, then of Feyenoord, who was appointed as his successor as Reds boss, with his tenure officially getting underway on 1st June 2024.
The 2024/25 season was his first full campaign in charge in the Premier League with his new club. He managed to lead them to a total of no less than 84 points – this was indeed enough to not only see them sit at the summit of the table at season’s end, but they also finished no less than 10 points ahead of Arsenal, who finished as runners-up in second place.
Liverpool enjoyed a wide array of incredible results last season, which significantly aided their efforts to win the title. However, none of the results from these games proved to be as joyous and pivotal for Reds fans as their thoroughly deserved 5 – 1 triumph at Anfield against Spurs back on 27th April 2025, which was a contest that saw them show their ruthlessness.
Luis Diaz (16’), Alexis Mac Allister (24’), Cody Gakpo (34’), and Mohamed Salah (63’) were all the goal scorers for Liverpool in this game, whilst there was also an own goal from Destiny Udogie (69’). There was also a goal from Dominic Solanke for the visitors Spurs, who did give the North London outfit a one goal lead initially (12’).
Moving on to Burnley, they have been under the stewardship of their English Head Coach Scott Parker since his appointment back on 5th July 2024 where he replaced Vincent Kompany, who had departed for Bayern Munich.
In his first full season at the Lancashire Club, Parker got them automatically promoted back to the Premier League at the first time of asking thanks to a 2nd place finish in the EFL Championship in the 2024/25 campaign, with his Clarets side finishing on 100 points, tied with title winners Leeds United, only losing out on the title on goal difference alone. It was a 2 – 1 victory at Turf Moor back on 21st April 2025 that ultimately secured them promotion back to the top flight of English Football.
The last time that these two teams met in a competitive game was at Anfield back on 10th February 2024 in what was a Premier League game during the 2023/24 season. In the end, it was to be a comfortable and a well deserved 3 – 1 triumph over the Clarets for the Reds, who were able to score their goals thanks to the efforts of the likes of Diogo Jota (31’), Luis Diaz (52’), and Darwin Nunez (79’), whilst it was Dara O’Shea who scored for Burnley equalise before going behind again right at the start of the second half (45’).
Overall, Liverpool and Burnley have gone head to head competitively on a total of 128 occasions, and it is the Reds who so far have the vastly superior record of 61 victories in this fixture compared with the Clarets’ total of 38 to date as of the time of writing.
