Liverpool are, of course, currently led by their Dutch Head Coach Arne Slot, who is set to lead the Reds in a game against Vitor Pereira’s Wolverhampton Wanderers side at the iconic and historic Anfield at the heart of Merseyside during the 2025/26 Premier League season. If the Reds can secure an all-important victory against Wolves, then the crucial three points that they gain from this could well prove vital going into the remainder of the campaign.
Victory in this game against their West Midlands counterparts would give the Reds’ pursuit of the title an extra boost, and it would provide them with momentum, which is vital if you are to win a title race. Consistency, ruthlessness, and a high standard of form have seen Liverpool fighting for the title every season, and there is every confidence that if they continue to win games at the volume and consistency that they have been in recent times, there is no doubt that they could do so again this season and win their record breaking 21st top flight title.
Jurgen Klopp was the predecessor to the Reds’ current Head Coach Arne Slot, with the German announcing his departure at around the midway point of the 2023/24 season, and he did go on to leave Liverpool following the conclusion of that season. Slot then officially took charge on 1st June 2024.
So, the 2024/25 campaign was Slot’s first full season in charge of the Merseyside club, and it saw the Dutchman immediately bring significant success to his new team. He led them to a second Premier League title and a 20th top flight title overall, which brought them level with their North West rivals Manchester United.
They had ended up on what was a grand total of 84 points following their 38 matches, whereas the runners-up Arsenal were 10 adrift of glory in the end.
Throughout this season, Liverpool were able to come away with some very memorable victories, with these results leading their way to finishing in top spot. The most important result was their memorable 5 – 1 success against North London rivals Spurs at Anfield, which sealed the title for Slot and his team. The goals on that occasion from the home side came from the likes of Luis Diaz (16’), Alexis Mac Allister (24’), Cody Gakpo (34’), and Mohamed Salah (63’), as well as an own goal from Spurs defender Destiny Udogie with just over twenty minutes left of normal time (69’).
Moving on to Wolves, their Portuguese Head Coach Vitor Pereira has been in charge of the Molineux Club ever since his appointment back on 19th December 2024 at what was around the halfway point of last season. He replaced the outgoing Gary O’Neill with them in 19th place with a total of just 9 points having been accumulated from their 16 matches at that point.
Pereira managed to lead the West Midlands outfit to a 16th place finish in the end with 42 points, which saw them end up finishing the campaign with a gap of no less than 17 points overall ahead of the relegation zone.
The last time that these two clubs met in a competitive game was in the Premier League at Anfield back on 16th February 2025. It was a game that ended in what was a 2 – 1 victory for the hosts on Merseyside thanks to some goals from the likes of Luis Diaz (15’) and a successful Mohamed Salah penalty (37’), with both of these goals coming in the first half. The only goal scorer for Wolves for that day was Matheus Cunha at around the midway point of the second half (67’).
Overall, Liverpool and Wolves have gone head to head in a competitive game in all competitions on no less than 118 occasions, and it is the Reds who have the superior record of 63 victories compared with Wolves’ total of 37 so far, whilst there have been 18 draws between these two clubs to date as of the time of writing.
