Manchester City, led by their Spanish Head Coach Pep Guardiola, are set to take on David Moyes’ Everton at the iconic Etihad Stadium located in the heart of Manchester during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
This season City is targeting the title and in doing so they will be looking to dethrone the reigning Champions Liverpool by the time all 38 games have been played in the English top flight. They can indeed take another step closer to glory if they are able to secure a crucial victory against their Merseyside counterparts in this game.
Pep Guardiola is of course the current Head Coach of Manchester City Football Club having been in charge ever since he officially succeeded Manuel Pellegrini ahead of the start of the 2016/17 season. This came a few months after his appointment had been confirmed back on 1st February 2016, with his Chilean counterpart taking charge of the rest of that season before the arrival of Guardiola.
Following all 38 games having been played last season, Manchester City were unfortunately unable to retain the title after finishing in 3rd place with 71 points behind Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Arne Slot’s Liverpool. This was indeed enough for them to secure themselves a place in the 2025/26 edition of the highly prestigious UEFA Champions League, but they will be looking to regain the Premier League this season.
Over the course of his time with Manchester City so far, Pep Guardiola has led them to an incredible amount of success, with the Cityzens having won no less than 18 trophies as of the time of writing. Under Pep, they have won 6 Premier League titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2020/21, 2021/22/ 2022/23 & 2023/24), 2 FA Cups (2018/19 & 2022/23), 4 Carabao Cup titles (2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20 & 2020/21), 3 FA Community Shield titles (2018, 2019 & 2024), 1 UEFA Champions League title (2022/23), 1 UEFA Super Cup title (2023), and finally 1 FIFA Club World Cup (2023).
Moving on to Everton, they are currently under the stewardship of their Scottish Head Coach David Moyes who took charge for what is his second spell in charge of the Toffees following the departure of his predecessor Sean Dyche back on Saturday 11th January 2025.
Last season, Moyes led the Toffees away from any relegation trouble to a very solid and respectable 13th place finish after they had accumulated a points total of 48 points from their 38 games in the English Top Flight in the end.
The last time that these two clubs came face to face competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Saturday 19th April 2025 at Goodison Park, in what was City’s final ever visit to the historic ground. It was a 2 – 0 win for City on this occasion thanks to goals from the likes of academy product Nico O’Reilly (84’) and Croatian international midfielder Mateo Kovacic (90+2’), who both scored in the latter stages of the second half.
Overall, Manchester City and Everton have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 199 occasions, and it is the Cityzens who do have the superior record of no less than 82 wins compared with the Toffees’ current total of wins against City standing at 68 so far. There have been 49 draws between these two teams, as of the time of writing.
