Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United are set to welcome an Arsenal side led by their Spanish Head Coach Mikel Arteta to Old Trafford, which is located in the heart of the City of Manchester during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
United and Arsenal are long-standing rivals with roots in the days when they faced each other under the leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, respectively, both of whom are, of course, legendary figures in the world of football.
This is one of the most high-profile fixtures of any season in the top tier of English Football. In this game, the Red Devils will be looking to get the better of the Gunners in order to take a step closer to realising their ambitions for this season, which are to qualify for a European Competition, with them having an eye on a potential return to the highly prestigious UEFA Champions League.
The current Head Coach of Manchester United Football Club is, of course, Ruben Amorim, who has been in charge ever since he officially took over back on Monday, 11th November 2024, following the announcement of his appointment earlier that month on 1st November. He succeeded his Dutch counterpart Erik Ten Hag in the hot seat at Old Trafford.
Last season, Amorim took charge of his first full season in charge, and in the Premier League, the club finished in 15th place, earning a total of 42 points from their 38 games overall in the English Top Flight. They ended last season on a high after they were able to beat Aston Villa 2 – 0 at the Theatre of Dreams, thanks to the goals of Amad Diallo (76’) and Christian Eriksen, with the latter scoring from the penalty spot very late on in the game (87’).
Moving on to Arsenal, their Spanish Head Coach Mikel Arteta has been in charge of the Gunners ever since it was announced that the former midfielder would be Unai Emery’s permanent successor in North London, with his tenure getting underway back on Friday 20th December 2019. They have finished as runners-up in the title race in each of the last three seasons, finishing behind Manchester City for two of them, and then behind Liverpool last season.
In their 2024/25 Premier League campaign, Arsenal were of course runners-up after they had accumulated a grand total of no less than 74 points from their 38 games in the top flight of English Football. They were ten points adrift of Arne Slot’s Reds in the end.
The last time that these two clubs met competitively in all competitions was in the Premier League back on Sunday 9th March 2025 at the iconic and historic Old Trafford. It was a 1 – 1 draw between these two English heavyweights, with Bruno Fernandes (45+2’) and Declan Rice (74’) scoring for their respective clubs on that day.
Overall, Manchester United and Arsenal have met competitively in all competitions on at least 243 occasions, and it is the Red Devils who currently hold the superior record, with 102 victories in this fixture, compared to the Gunners’ total of 90 wins against United so far. There have also been as many as 51 draws between these two clubs to date, as of the time of writing.
