Manchester United welcome West Ham to Old Trafford for this 2023/24 Premier League fixture. Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United side are set to welcome a West Ham United team led by Head Coach David Moyes to Old Trafford in the 2023/24 Premier League season. The Red Devils are set to fight for the top four once again whilst having ambitions of being in the title race. As for the Hammers, they will look to finish higher in the league this time around, using the momentum gained from their win in the UEFA Europa Conference League final in June 2023. Manchester United and West Ham United are set to face each other once again at Old Trafford in the 2023/24 Premier League season. Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag will hope to lead his team to yet another top four finish whilst potentially being part of the title conversation this season. As for David Moyes’ Hammers, they will look to use the momentum gained from their UEFA Europa Conference League win to finish higher in the Premier League table this season.
After beginning his managerial career at Go Ahead Eagles (2012 – 2013) in his native Netherlands before going on to manage Bayern Munich II (2013 – 2015) and Utrecht (2015 – 2017) before being chosen to succeed Marcel Keizer at Dutch Giants Ajax. Whilst with the Amsterdam club, Ten Hag won 6 trophies in just 5 years: 3 Eredivisie titles (2018/19, 2020/21 & 2021/22), 2 KNVB Cups (2018/19 & 2020/21) and the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2019.
Famously, Ten Hag led Ajax on a tremendous Champions League run in 2019, beating the likes of Real Madrid 4-1 and Juventus 2-1 on their way to a semi-final tie with Spurs. Unfortunately for Ajax, they lost on away goals following a 3-3 draw on aggregate over the two legs.
Following Michael Carrick and Ralf Rangnick’s respective tenures in temporary charge, Erik Ten Hag was named as Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s permanent successor at Old Trafford ahead of the 2022/23 season. In his first full season in charge, the Dutch Head Coach led the Red Devils to a return to the Champions League after accumulating 75 points – a 3-place and 17-point improvement on the 2021/22 season.
With 17 goals in the Premier League, Marcus Rashford was Manchester United’s leading goal scorer in the top flight, with Bruno Fernandes second in the Red Devils’ goal-scoring charts with 8 goals to his name. Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho got 6 goals each in the Premier League last season.
David Moyes began his second stint as West Ham United boss back on 29th December 2019, succeeding Manuel Pellegrini at the London Stadium. The 2019/20 Premier League season saw the Hammers finish 16th before securing qualification for the Europa League after a 6th-place finish in the 2020/21 season. They would go on to reach the semi-final of the Europa League, losing 3-1 on aggregate to German side Eintracht Frankfurt.
After finishing 7th in the Premier League in the 2021/22 season, The Hammers qualified for the Europa Conference League. Moyes’ side did go on to win the Europa Conference League Final after beating Italy’s Fiorentina 2-1 in Prague. This was their first piece of European silverware since they won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1965.
The Hammers finished 14th in the Premier League table in the 2022/23 season, finishing in 14th place with 40 points.
Saïd Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen were the joint top goal scorers for David Moyes’ West Ham United side last season, both scoring 6 goals. Michail Antonio got 5 goals, whilst Declan Rice and Lucas Paquetá got on the scoresheet 4 times each.
Manchester United and West Ham United met competitively for the very first time on 25th February 1911 in the 3rd Round of that season’s FA Cup at Upton Park. Overall, across their 152 meetings to date, the Red Devils have won 73 in comparison to the Hammers’ 47. There have been 32 draws as of the time of writing between these two clubs.
The most recent match to have taken place between these two teams came on 7th May 2023, when West Ham United were able to beat Manchester United 1-0 at the London Stadium in the Premier League. Saïd Benrahma scored the only goal of the game midway through the first half (27’).
