De Zerbi started his managerial career in the fourth tier of Italian football, taking over at Darfo Boario. The Italian stayed for just 22 games before joining Foggia in the summer of 2014. During his time there, he boasted a points-per-game (PPG) record of 1.86, taking the club to Italy’s second division.
After his success in Southern Italy, De Zerbi got his big break in Italian football when Palermo hired the former midfielder. However, he struggled to make an immediate impact and was relieved of his duties after just 13 matches in charge, recording a PPG of 0.38.
Following his departure, De Zerbi also had spells at Benevento and Sassuolo. The latter was where he really made his name in top-flight football. He spent three seasons in the Sassuolo dugout, managing the side before departing for Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk.
After just one season in Ukraine and a PPG record of 2.17 after 30 games, De Zerbi made the jump to the English seaside, taking over at Brighton & Hove Albion. Two successful years then followed in the South of England, with Brighton qualifying for the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history.
De Zerbi had his side competing against the elite across the Premier League and Europe, which earned him a move to Marseille. His spell at Marseille sparked more success for the 46-year-old. After 69 matches in the dugout, De Zerbi departed with a PPG record of 1.81, his second highest in European football.
Then, in March, De Zerbi put pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to guide Spurs back to the UEFA Champions League and compete at the summit of the Premier League.
Ipswich Town’s 2025/26 season was a strange one to live through, but it ended in exactly the right place.
After relegation from the Premier League, there was a clear sense of change at Portman Road. The squad looked different almost immediately, with only a small core remaining from the group that had achieved back-to-back promotions. Players like Liam Delap and Omari Hutchinson moved on, and it felt less like a continuation and more like starting again.
Kieran McKenna stayed in charge, and that continuity mattered. Coming into management after coaching roles at Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, he had already delivered two promotions with Ipswich. This season, though, was about rebuilding rather than riding momentum.
The early weeks were uneven. Ipswich did not quite click, with a mix of draws, narrow defeats, and an EFL Cup exit to Bromley that summed up the frustration around the club at the time. There was no panic, but there was clearly work to do.
The turning point came with the 5- 0 win over Sheffield United in September. It did not fix everything overnight, but it changed the feeling around the team. Confidence started to return, and performances became more consistent.
The derby wins over Norwich City also stood out. Those games gave the fans something to latch onto, and you could feel the mood shift around the club on those days.
From there, Ipswich slowly climbed into a stronger position. They became harder to beat, more controlled in games, and better at managing pressure.
On 2nd May, it all came together with a 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers at Portman Road, sealing promotion back to the Premier League.
Overall, Spurs and Ipswich have met in competitive fixtures 55 times, and the hosts have a superior record of 25 wins to the Tractor Boys’ 22. There has also been a total of 8 draws between these two teams.
