- Spurs fans may wear smart jeans and trainers

Tottenham Hotspur are set to go head to head with West Midlands counterparts Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the 2023/24 Premier League season. Ange Postecoglou will be looking to lead his Spurs side to a top-seven finish and a return to European football, whereas Wolves will want to aim for an improvement on their bottom-half finish last season under Head Coach Gary O’Neil.
After accumulating 60 points in their 38 league matches, Spurs ended up with an 8th-place finish. They were unlucky not to secure European football last season after missing out on a top-seven finish by just 1 point despite an emphatic 4-1 victory against Leeds United at Elland Road on the final day of the 2022/23 season.
Harry Kane, now Spurs and England’s all-time leading goal scorer, was unsurprisingly the Lilywhites’ top scorer in the Premier League last term with 30 goals – only Manchester City forward Erling Haaland got more with 36 to his name. Heung-Min Son came 2nd with 10, whilst Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg got 5 and 4 goals, respectively.
Only Brighton (72), Liverpool (75), Arsenal (88) and Champions Manchester City (94) scored more goals as a team than Spurs, who got 70 overall – the 5th best record.
After winning a tough group in the Champions League, where they played against Eintracht Frankfurt, Sporting and Marseille, Tottenham made it to the Round of 16, where they were narrowly beaten 1-0 on aggregate over two legs by Italian heavyweights AC Milan.
Ange Postecoglou was announced by Tottenham as the club’s new Head Coach in June 2023, becoming Antonio Conte’s permanent successor at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason both had stints as interim Head Coach.
The Australian Head Coach led Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title once again last season, winning all but 6 of their league matches whilst accumulating 99 points. The Bhoys were also by far the highest goal-scoring team in the entire division with 114 in all – a very impressive 21 goals more than their Old Firm Rivals Rangers, who got the second most goals as a team with 93.
Postecoglou’s side were also the best defensive team in the league last season too, conceding just 34 goals.
In his 2 years at the club, Postecoglou won no less than 5 trophies in all: 2 Scottish Premiership titles (2021/22 & 2022/23), 1 Scottish Cup (2022/23) and 2 Scottish League Cups (2021/22 & 2022/23).
Julen Lopetegui took over at Wolves in November 2022, replacing Bruno Lage, who had been dismissed by the West Midlands club one month earlier in October. The Spaniard, formerly of Porto and Sevilla, managed to lead the club to comfortably avoid relegation, finishing in 13th place with 41 points – 7 clear of the bottom three.
Change came in the dugout at Molineux ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season with Julen Lopetegui leaving the club with Wolves replacing him with ex-Bournemouth Head Coach Gary O’Neil. O’Neil was initially caretaker manager following Scott Parker’s departure in August 2022 before becoming Parker’s permanent successor in November of that year.
Despite a 15th place finish that saw O’Neil’s Cherries 5 points clear of the drop, he left the club at the end of that season (2022/23).
Daniel Podence and Rúben Neves were Wolves’ top scorers last term with 6 goals each, whilst Hwang Hee-Chan came second with 3. Summer signing Matheus Cunha and Adama Traoré got 2 goals each.
Spurs and Wolves came face to face for the very first time when they met in a league match at White Hart Lane, where the home side won 3-0 on 1st September 1908. Vivian Woodward (2) and Tom Morris scored for the Spurs that day. Overall the two clubs have met 104 times, with Tottenham having the superior record of 52 wins in comparison to Wolves’ 31. There have been 21 draws in this fixture.
The most recent match between these two clubs took place on 4th March 2023 in the Premier League, where Wolves won 1-0 at Molineux.
