Maximilian Beier

Maximilian Beier to Chelsea?

The 21 year old Hoffenheim striker has been linked with a move to Enzo Maresca’s Blues following the German’s prolific form in the Bundesliga last season.

Preparations for Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are ramping up ahead of the start of the 2024/25 Premier League season. The Blues are set to face the likes of Club America, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Inter Milan in friendly matches in the coming weeks.

Chelsea are also preparing for the new campaign with several new signings, and they have already added Tosin Adarabioyo (From Fulham), Marc Guiu (From FC Barcelona), Caleb Wiley (From Atlanta United), Renato Veiga (From FC Basel), Omari Kellyman (From Aston Villa), Filip Jorgensen (From Villarreal) and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (From Leicester City).

A player who the Blues have been linked extensively with over the last couple of days is Hoffenheim’s 21 year old German striker Maximilian Beier, who was one of the most prolific forwards in the Bundesliga last season.

Out of 34 games, Beier made an appearance in 33 of them. He scored no less than 16 goals with 3 assists to boot in the German top flight, helping his team to a very respectable 7th place finish with 46 points to their name. This saw them secure qualification for the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League at the League Phase stage.

Beier’s record of 16 goals saw him finish as the Bundesliga’s 5th-highest goal scorer, one place ahead of teammate Andrej Kramaric who got 15 in all. The only players to get more goals than Maximilian Beier were Deniz Undav (18 – Stuttgart, on loan from Brighton), Lois Openda (24 – RB Leipzig), Serhou Guirassy (28 – Stuttgart, now with Borussia Dortmund) and Harry Kane (36 – Bayern Munich).

Unsurprisingly, Maximilian Beier was Hoffenheim’s leading goal scorer in the league, with Kramaric only one ahead of him with 17 goals in all competitions.

We will now rewind to the start of the forward’s career, which was when he began his youth career with Brandenburger SC Sud aged 12 back in 2014. He was with the club for a year, before then joining Energie Cottbus in 2015. Beier eventually went on to join Hoffenheim at academy level at the age of 16 in 2018.

Following promotion to the club’s First Team, Beier made his senior professional debut for Hoffenheim in a 1 – 0 defeat against Freiburg in a match in the Bundesliga back on 8th February 2020.

Then, on the 10th December 2020, it was joy for Beier as he was on target for his first ever senior goals for the club in a 4 – 1 UEFA Europa League win against Belgian outfit Gent. The young German forward got 2 goals and an assist, meaning that he contributed to three of his team’s total of four goals that day.

Then, for the 2021/22 season, Maximilian Beier was loaned out to 2. Bundesliga outfit Hannover 96. During that campaign, he got a grand total of three goals and six assists in his 30 appearances in the league. He did also score 4 times, whilst getting 1 assist in 3 matches in the DFB Pokal, the German FA Cup, in that same season.

After a positive first spell with the club, Beier was then sent back to Hannover for the 2022/23 season, playing in the 2. Bundesliga once more. This time, he managed to score 7 goals in 33 games in the German Second Division, whilst also scoring once in two games in the DFB Pokal. He helped his side to a 10th place finish with a total of 44 points to their name.

He then went on to enjoy his aforementioned prolific 2023/24 season in all competitions with Hoffenheim.

Whilst there is reported interest from Juventus and Aston Villa alongside Chelsea, it remains to be seen where Maximilian Beier will ultimately end up. If he joins the Blues, fans will be excited to see if his goals can help their club realise their target of UEFA Champions League Qualification next term.

Excitement and anticipation are building ahead of the 2024/25 Premier League season, and there is strong optimism that Chelsea can enjoy a very successful campaign in the English top flight.
