More About Cesarewitch Trial Day
Cesarewitch Trial Day is staged on the Rowley Mile at Newmarket Racecourse and traditionally takes place ahead of the historic Cesarewitch Handicap.
The trial race gives horses the chance to secure their place in the Cesarewitch Handicap, a long-distance contest that was first run in 1839. Its name honours Tsesarevich Alexander, later Tsar Alexander II, following his donation of £300 to the Jockey Club.
Newmarket has been closely associated with horse racing since the 17th century and remains one of the sport’s most important locations. The Rowley Mile hosts several major meetings throughout the Flat season, with its wide, undulating course creating a demanding test for horses and jockeys.
The date for Cesarewitch Trial Day 2027 is currently to be confirmed.
