The first ever winner of this event was Cruiskeen who won it for the first and only time. The most recent winner of the event is Beylerbeyi, who was ridden by Billy Loughnane, won in 2025.

Cesarewitch Trial Day is a prestigious horse racing event that takes place across one action-packed day at the iconic and historic Newmarket Racecourse on an annual basis. The highlight of the event is, of course, the Cesarewitch Handicap, which was inaugurated all the way back in 1839. The ‘Cesarewitch’ comes from a tribute to the Tsar Nicholas II of Russia after he had donated a total of £300 to the Jockey Club.
The event currently takes place along the Rowley Mile at the iconic Newmarket Racecourse, which has a great history of its own, with horse racing there since 1667. This means the venue has been hosting horse racing for over 350 years.
The most recent winner of the aforementioned Cesarewitch Handicap is, of course, Beylerbeyi. The Ian Williams-trained horse was ridden to victory by Jockey Billy Loughnane, who, incredibly, climbed from last to first over the course of the race in what was a memorable victory. Loughnane was able to fend off some stern competition coming from the likes of runner-up Dawn Rising, ridden by Oisin Murphy, and then Bunting, ridden by fellow Jockey William Buick, who came third.
