The course also plays host to the lightning fast action that only flat racing can provide. The highlight race is undoubtedly the Coral Eclipse Stakes a Group One of the highest quality.
The race first took place in 1886 and has featured legends of flat racing including Dancing Brave, Mill Reef and Sea the Stars. While Lester Piggott holds the record for number of wins by a single jockey with seven, a staggering number given the quality of the field that regularly competes in the race.
In 2015 Golden Horn sealed his place in the history of the sport as he won the mile-and-a-quarter contest making him the first horse to ever win the Dante Stakes, The Epsom Derby and Eclipse Stakes in the same season.
Sandown Park is steeped in horse racing history with many of the battles that have taken place between great horses and jockeys still talked about to this day.
