Sandown Hospitality – Betfair Tingle Creek Festival – Equus Restaurant Package
Enjoy one of the biggest events of the 2026 National Hunt season with Betfair Tingle Creek Festival hospitality packages at Sandown.
The history of the Tingle Creek Festival began in the late 1970s, or more specifically in 1979, when it was first known as the Benson & Hedges Gold Cup before changing its name to the Mecca Bookmakers’ Handicap Chase.
It became known as The Tingle Creek Chase in tribute to the famous horse Tingle Creek, who had gained considerable popularity in the 1970s with its participation in the National Hunt races and as a specialist at Sandown, where he won the Sandown Park Pattern Handicap Chase a total of three times.
The first Tingle Creek Chase took place in 1979, with the inaugural running being won by Artifice. But it was News King who won the Chase in 1981 and then again a year later in 1982, becoming the first dual winner at the Tingle Creek Chase at the Sandown Racecourse.
A significant record is held by a horse going by the name of Flagship Uberalles. The horse became the only horse in the Tingle Creek Chase’s history to have won the race a total of three times. What is even more extraordinary about this achievement is the fact that it won with three different trainers and jockeys.
Paul Nicholls is one of the most famous and revered horse jockeys and horse trainers in the sport’s history. Nicholls showed dominant form at the Tingle Creek Chase in the mid to late 2000s and had an astonishing record, winning this race in six consecutive seasons between 2005 and 2010.
In 2024, the winner of the Tingle Creek Chase was Jonbon, who, in doing so, became the first horse since Kauto Star almost 20 years before to win this race in successive years. Kauto Star’s consecutive successes came all the way back in 2005 and 2006.
The most recent winner (2025) of the Tingle Creek Chase was Il Etait Temps, trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Paul Townend, securing a dominant nine-length victory over Jonbon.
The 2026 Betfair Tingle Creek Festival is set to begin from Friday, 4th December to Saturday, 5th December 2026 at Sandown Racecourse.
