Conor Benn Finally Set To Get World Title Shot Against Ryan Garcia

WBC Welterweight Champion Ryan Garcia has seemingly confirmed a huge bout with Britain’s Conor Benn in Las Vegas later this year.
Garcia, who fights out of California, USA, won the WBC belt back in February when he impressively defeated Mario Barrios by unanimous decision, after two failed attempts.
Despite Benn taking part in some huge fights, the 29-year-old has never competed for a world title and will finally look to follow in his father Nigel’s footsteps in capturing gold at world level.
“He’s from across the pond – his name is Conor Benn. He’s been talking a lot; he’s talking crazy,” Garcia said.
“He actually confronted me at an awards show two years ago. My wife was there, and he pressed me, grabbed me, so it’s a little personal.
“We’ll be ready to go. I’m going to put a whooping on this man.”
Benn has jumped through the weights in recent years and hasn’t fought at welterweight since February 2024. He moved up two divisions to take on long-term rival Chris Eubank Jr at middleweight before recently beating Regis Prograis at a catchweight.
Controversy has followed Benn, with him recently dumping his career-long promoter, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, to join Dana White’s new promotion, Zuffa Boxing.
Garcia has won 25 of his 28 professional fights, losing two, with one no-contest, and was suspended from boxing for a year between 2024 and 2025 after failing a drug test.
Benn, who has lost just once in 25 fights, was also sidelined for a year amid a doping scandal.
Garcia v Benn will take place on 12 September, the same night Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez faces WBC super-middleweight champion Christian Mbilli in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
