Another memorable summer of Flat racing is beginning to move towards its conclusion, but the racing calendar never stands still.

The curtain will come down on the major British Flat season at Ascot on Saturday 17th October 2026 with Qatar Racing British Champions Day.

One of the biggest single days on the British racing calendar, Champions Day brings together some of the leading horses, jockeys and trainers for a final celebration of the Flat season.

After a summer featuring the likes of the Derby, Royal Ascot, the Qatar Goodwood Festival and York Ebor Festival, Ascot provides the perfect autumn finale before attention increasingly turns towards National Hunt racing.

And supporters will not have to wait long for one of the first major dates of the jumps campaign.

Jumps Racing Takes Centre Stage

Newbury hosts Coral Gold Cup Day on Saturday 28th November 2026, providing one of the early highlights of the National Hunt season.

The Coral Gold Cup has long been an important fixture in the jumps calendar and provides the sort of demanding staying test that makes winter racing so compelling.

From there, the anticipation only grows.

Throughout the winter months, every major performance over hurdles and fences begins to shape the picture for the spring festivals. Established stars return, new contenders emerge and conversations inevitably turn towards one destination in particular: Cheltenham.

Cheltenham Festival 2027

The Cheltenham Festival returns from Tuesday 16th to Friday 19th March 2027, bringing four extraordinary days of National Hunt racing to Prestbury Park.

For many racing supporters, Cheltenham is the defining week of the jumps season.

The best horses from Britain and Ireland compete across the Festival, with championship races, famous rivalries and the unmistakable Cheltenham atmosphere combining to create one of the most eagerly anticipated sporting occasions of the year.

The Flat Returns for Another Huge Summer

The Chester May Festival, from Wednesday 5th to Friday 7th May 2027, helps launch another packed period of major Flat racing.

Just days later, York stages the Dante Festival from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th May, an important early-season meeting that traditionally provides significant clues ahead of the summer Classics.

The Derby Festival then arrives at Epsom on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th June 2027, before one of the most celebrated weeks in the entire British sporting calendar.

Royal Ascot returns from Tuesday 15th to Saturday 19th June 2027, bringing five days of elite racing, fashion, hospitality and tradition to Ascot Racecourse.

From there, the summer continues at pace.

The Newmarket July Festival takes place from Thursday 8th to Saturday 10th July, before the Qatar Goodwood Festival runs from Tuesday 27th to Saturday 31st July.

York then welcomes racing fans back for the Ebor Festival from Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st August 2027, once again providing one of the highlights of the late summer calendar.
