Ladies Days in British Horse Racing 2026: Where to Go and What to Wear

You don’t need to know the difference between a furlong and a fence to have the time of your life at a racecourse. That’s the beauty of Ladies Day. At its heart, it’s a brilliant British tradition – a day where great sport, great fashion, great food, and great company all come together in one place.
The racing gives the day its heartbeat, but what keeps people coming back year after year is the feeling. The roar of the crowd as the horses round the final bend. The anticipation of the paddock. The moment your horse (the one you picked because you liked the name) crosses the line first. There’s nothing quite like it.
Five Ladies’ Days in 2026
Ladies’ Days are some of the best days out on the entire sporting and social calendar, and they sell out months in advance. Whether it’s your first time at the races or you’ve been going for years, here’s your complete guide to the biggest and best Ladies Days in British horse racing this year.
Epsom Derby Festival Ladies Day – Friday 5th June 2026

Ladies Day at Epsom falls on the day before the Derby itself, set against the stunning backdrop of the Surrey Downs. It’s a slightly more relaxed affair than Ascot and the Betfred Oaks, one of the Classic races of the flat season, makes it serious racing territory too.
The style here sits between the formality of Ascot and the boldness of Aintree – elegant and polished, but with more room to be playful. Floral midi dresses, tailored suits and fascinators are popular choices.
Royal Ascot Ladies Day – Thursday 18th June 2026
Royal Ascot is the grandest stage. Gold Cup Day, also known as Ladies Day, is the jewel of the five-day Royal Meeting, combining the sport’s most prestigious flat race with the strictest dress code in British sport.
Hats are mandatory, dresses must fall just above the knee or longer, and strapless or off-the-shoulder styles are not permitted. Think soft pastels, florals, silk and chiffon, elegant midi silhouettes and statement headwear.
Newmarket July Festival Ladies Day – Thursday 9th July 2026
The home of British racing, Newmarket’s Ladies Day at the Debenhams July Festival is where the sport meets summer in style. Racegoers tend to go all out – dazzling dresses, summery trouser suits, hats and fascinators are all popular choices. The Style Awards add a competitive edge to proceedings, rewarding the best-dressed racegoers across the enclosures.
Qatar Goodwood Festival Ladies Day – Thursday 30th July 2026
Set on the Sussex Downs with sweeping views across the countryside, Goodwood is arguably the most beautiful racecourse in Britain. Ladies Day here has a gloriously elegant, garden party feel – a brilliant summer’s day out.
The official dress guidance is “stylish with a relaxed feel”, making it ideal for floaty summer dresses, light suits and the course’s signature Panama hat.
York Ebor Festival Ladies Day – Thursday 20th August 2026
Often called the Royal Ascot of the North, the York Ebor Festival is one of the most prestigious flat racing meetings in the British calendar and Ladies Day on the Thursday is its glamorous centrepiece.
Think wedding guest attire taken up a notch – statement dresses, towering heels, hats and fascinators. The Ebor Fashion Lawn hosts a full catwalk and style competitions with prizes for Most Stylish, Most Stylish Couple, Most Stylish Runner-Up, Best Hat and Best Dressed Child.
