Michael Carrick Appointed As Manchester United’s Permanent Manager
Michael Carrick has been confirmed as Manchester United’s permanent manager, penning a two-year contract at Old Trafford.
The 44-year-old, who made 316 appearances during his time as a player for the Red Devils, took interim charge following the dismissal of former manager Ruben Amorim in January.
Former Middlesbrough boss Carrick has led United to a guaranteed third place in the Premier League after Sunday’s enthralling 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
After winning 11 from his 16 matches in charge, Carrick has been named on a six-man shortlist for the Premier League’s manager of the season award.
“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride,” said Carrick.
“Throughout the past five months, this group of players has shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.
“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”
Carrick, who also had a three-game stint as United’s temporary boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s dismissal in 2021, has impressed throughout both spells.
The former England midfielder spent 12 years at Old Trafford as a player, winning five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
