Ryder Cup: Team Europe line-up revealed

Captain Luke Donald has named the player line-up for Team Europe for this year’s Ryder Cup. There are plenty of big names, many of which will also be taking part in the upcoming BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Ryder Cup is one of golf’s most prestigious tournaments, pitting Team Europe against Team USA. The 2025 event takes place at Bethpage Black Golf Course in Old Bethpage, New York, from Friday, 26th to Sunday, 28th September.

Luke Donald, Captain of Team Europe, has named his full team to try and retain the Ryder Cup that they won back in 2023, with 11 of the 12 players named having been part of this triumph in the UK last time out. Europe’s triumph in the most recent Ryder Cup saw them defeat the United States following what was a 16 ½ – 11 ½ victory in the end.

Donald will be joined by the likes of Shane Lowry, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, Jon Rahm, Sepp Straka, Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Justin Rose, Tommy Fleetwood, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Tyrell Hatton.

The only change from the victorious 2023 team is Rasmus Hojgaard, who comes in to replace his twin brother Nicolai.

Ahead of the Ryder Cup, several team members will compete in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth from Tuesday, 9th to Sunday, 14th September 2025 – this is also a highly prestigious tournament, with it now just days away from getting underway.

Players that are taking part in both the BMW PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup this year include the likes of Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry, Tyrell Hatton, Robert MacIntyre, Viktor Hovland, Rasmus Hojgaard, Ludvig Aberg, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Jon Rahm.

As for Team USA, their captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup will be Keegan Bradley, and joining him are Scottie Scheffler, JJ Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, Bryson DeChambeau, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Benjamin Griffin, Cameron Young, Patrick Cantlay, and Sam Burns.

Captain Donald has commented on the lack of changes in the team between the 2023 and 2025 Ryder Cups and the pressure of trying to retain the title. He said (via The Guardian):

“This isn’t certainly a question of rinse and repeat from Rome. I’m trying to come at this one quite differently to what we did in Rome. It’s nice to have a continuity within the team, the memories, the experiences that we got to celebrate together. When it comes to this Ryder Cup, it doesn’t necessarily mean we are going to have the same partnerships.

“We understand what’s going to happen to us. It’s our reaction to that that’s really important.

“So we all have fears. We all have anxieties and we all find Ryder Cups pressurised. But these are top athletes that understand how to walk towards that fear. You want to embrace what a Ryder Cup represents and then part of that is embracing the crowd and embracing that atmosphere. I think certainly these guys will be ready for that.”

Donald also revealed that Team Europe will be going on a scouting mission at Bethpage in the United States in preparation for the latest Ryder Cup, following the conclusion of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

Excitement is building as players first compete in the BMW PGA Championship from 9th to 14th September, before focus turns to the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black.
