NFL London: Cleveland Browns Deep Dive
Ahead of their latest trip to London this October, we are going to be taking a deeper look into the Cleveland Browns ahead of their game against the Minnesota Vikings at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The annual NFL London Games are much anticipated by fans across the world, most of all those who are based in the United Kingdom. The Cleveland Browns are going to be one of six franchises to make the trip across the pond for regular season matches that will be taking place in the heart of the English Capital in October 2025.
The Browns, led by their current Head Coach Kevin Stefanski, will be coming up against the Minnesota Vikings at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London on the afternoon of Sunday, 5th October 2025. It will also be the first of the three regular season games that are set to take place in this famous city later on this year.
One player in particular to look out for, for the Browns is defensive end Myles Garrett, who has been selected for Pro Bowl on 6 occasions, doing so in 2018, and each year from 2020 to 2024. He is also the only active NFL player to have ever been named in the PFWA All NFL team for all of the past five seasons from 2020 to 2024.
He is the first player to have achieved 100 sacks before the age of 29, whilst also setting a single game record for the franchise for sacks with 4.5 in 2021 against the Chicago Bears.
When it comes to their head-to-head record between these two teams, it is the Vikings who currently have the superior record of 12 wins so far, compared with the 5 for the Cleveland Browns as of the time of writing.
Both of these sides will be hoping not to play in a game that results in this fixture’s first-ever tie, with Minnesota and Cleveland both craving to add another victory to their name in London, ahead of the remainder of the regular season.
This will not be the first time that the Browns have played an NFL game here, with them so far having only made one previous trip to London, which came back in the 2017 edition of the NFL London Games, which saw them defeated by the aforementioned Minnesota Vikings at Twickenham in October that year.
Unfortunately for the Cleveland Browns, they are one of the sides to have never won the Super Bowl as of the time of writing.
Though they have won the pre-cursor to the Super Bowl, the NFL Championship Game, which they won on 4 occasions, with these triumphs coming back in 1950 (30 – 28 vs. Los Angeles Rams), 1954 (56 – 10 vs. Detroit Lions), 1955 (38 – 14 vs. Los Angeles Rams), and finally in 1964, when they were 27 – 0 winners against the Baltimore Colts (now the Indianapolis Colts).
The Cleveland Browns were founded as a franchise towards the end of World War Two back in 1944, before going on to officially join the NFL in 1950 alongside the likes of the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Colts. They would then win four NFL Championships in 1950, 1954, 1955, and 1964.
They were also one of the teams that participated in the first-ever Monday Night Football Game back on 21st September 1970, where they came up against the New York Jets, who were beaten 31 – 21 by the Browns.
According to the odds that are offered by ESPN, the Cleveland Browns are one of the sides that are seen as one of the outsiders to win this season’s Super Bowl, but there is good news – there have been plenty of shock winners of this iconic game in the past.
One such triumph came the way of the San Francisco 49ers, who were transformed following the arrival of Bill Walsh as their Head Coach in 1978, in what was a particular low point in the history of the franchise. They did not seem like they would be in contention for the win in the Super Bowl in the 1981 season, but they did go on to win Super Bowl XVI, where they were able to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 26 – 21 at the Pontiac Silverdome located in Pontiac, Michigan.
Excitement is building ahead the NFL action returning to London, with the Cleveland Browns set to take on the Minnesota Vikings at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 5th October 2025.
