NFL London: Minnesota Vikings vs Cleveland Browns Preview

The NFL finally returns to London on Sunday, with the Vikings and the Browns going toe to toe in a regular season game at the famous Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Excitement and anticipation are building ahead of the NFL’s return to London this weekend, with the regular-season contest between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns set to take place at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, 5th October.

This game will be followed by the Denver Broncos and New York Jets facing each other at the same venue on 12th October, before the NFL London Games for 2025 end with a clash between the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium on 19th October.

Back to the regular season battle to come between the Vikings and the Browns, the two sides are currently only four games into the current NFL season, as of the time of writing.

There is some interesting team news going into this game – Cleveland are looking set to start rookie Dillon Gabriel, coming into the team in place of Joe Flacco. Meanwhile, it is looking likely that Carson Wentz will be part of the Vikings’ side for this game following an injury to JJ McCarthy.

The Minnesota Vikings are currently sitting 3rd in the NFC North, having won two and lost two to date, with the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers sitting above them as things stand, whilst it is the Chicago Bears who sit bottom of the table.

The two wins that the Vikings have secured ahead of the game on Sunday have seen them get the better of the aforementioned Chicago Bears, as well as the Cincinnati Bengals, who were beaten 24 – 27 and 48 – 10, respectively. Their latest game, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, was a very narrow loss for the team, who were defeated 24 – 21 at Croke Park in the Republic of Ireland last weekend.

They therefore do have a second opportunity to win on foreign soil on Sunday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Cleveland Browns are 4th in the AFC North, recently defeating the Green Bay Packers 13–10 at Huntington Bank Field on 21st September. Like the Vikings, they aim to move up the standings.

There are a number of players to look out for in this game in North London. Starting with the Minnesota Vikings, one player in particular that you should keep an eye on is their 26-year-old wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who has recently become the joint youngest player in the NFL’s extensive history to reach 500 catches, together with Larry Fitzgerald.

The likes of Jordan Addison and TJ Hockenson will also be looking to stand out for their team.

Myles Garrett is among the key players for the Browns and is among the most dominant defenders in the NFL, with his ability to effectively disrupt opposing offenses. He also possesses excellent leadership qualities, versatility, speed, and power. The likes of Quinshon Judkins, David Njoku, and Jerry Jeudy are also worth keeping your eye on.

Overall, it is the Vikings who have the most wins in this fixture with 12 overall, compared with the 5 so far for the Browns.

The most recent regular season contest between the Minnesota Vikings and the Cleveland Browns took place back on Sunday, 3rd October 2021 at the U.S. Bank Stadium. The Vikings won 14–7 in this game.

These two teams have also previously met in London before, with them meeting at Twickenham all the way back in 2017, where the Vikings were winners again, this time with what was a 33 – 16 scoreline in the end.

Various news outlets predict a victory for Minnesota on Sunday, but the Browns will, of course, be looking to claim their first win of the season.

One such news outlet is DAZN, who think that the Vikings will win 27 – 13. One of the reasons given for this prediction is that they think that their team has more balance, whilst also being able to count on the availability of star player Justin Jefferson for this game, who is very capable of making a significant impact for his team.
