NFL Opening Game

NFL: New Season Underway

The brand new NFL season is finally underway, with the Philadelphia Eagles beating the Dallas Cowboys in the opening game.

There was plenty of excitement among fans in the build-up to the latest NFL season, and it is now officially underway. The opening game saw the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys go head to head at the 67,594 capacity Lincoln Financial Field.

The Eagles, who previously won Super Bowl LIX at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday, 9th February 2025 against the Kansas City Chiefs, entered the current season as champions. In that Super Bowl, the Eagles secured a 40–22 victory for their second title, their first having been in 2017.

Following their recent Super Bowl triumph, the Eagles opened the new season with a hard-fought and enthralling contest against the Cowboys. At the conclusion of the match, the Eagles managed to start their campaign strongly, defeating Dallas 24–20.

Jalen Hurts was one of the standout players in the opening game, scoring two touchdowns, which were crucial contributions to this triumph for the quarterback. He also completed the most passes of the entire team with 19 of his 23 passes finding their intended target for an exceptional completion rate of 82.6%.

Hurts also stood out when it came to rushing for the Eagles with 62 yards from 14 carries; this was more yards than any of his teammates. Saquon Barkley stood out in rushing as well and was just behind Hurts on 60 yards, which is still impressive, and far more than the next best in the team, which was Will Shipley on 26 yards.

Significantly, the Eagles have an excellent record when Jalen Hurts is in the team, with them having won 15 games in a row where he has started and finished the game.
