Reigning World Champions South Africa are set to make the trip to Twickenham on Saturday 16th November 2024 to face Steve Borthwick’s England in their Autumn Internationals match. Both nations are amongst the heavyweights of the rugby world, England are fifth in the world rankings, while South Africa are in first thanks to their 2023 World Cup win.

Steve Borthwick, who has been England’s Head Coach since December 2022, hopes to see off a side currently seen as the best in the world in what would be an eye-catching and statement win.

England did have a good campaign in the most recent World Cup. After winning their Pool and seeing off Fiji in the Quarter Finals, they were drawn against South Africa in the semi-finals. Borthwick and his team were unlucky to be on the wrong end of a 15 – 16 defeat at the Parc des Princes.

There was some consolation for England, though, as they beat Argentina 23 – 26 to clinch third place.

England won the World Cup after beating Australia 20 – 17 in 2003. As for South Africa, they are four time World Champions, winning it in 1995, 2007, 2019 and, of course, 2023.

Plenty of success has been found by England in the Six Nations, having won it on no less than seven occasions in: 2000, 2001, 2003, 2011, 2016, 2017 & 2020.

England and South Africa are fierce rivals, and there have been several memorable matches between them over the years. One such game took place in the 2002 Autumn Internationals, where England were emphatic 53 – 3 winners at Twickenham. It was a rough match, with South Africa, in particular, trying to disrupt their opponents with particularly rough tackles.

England coped admirably with the extreme physicality of the contest to secure the win.

Over the years, South Africa have 28 wins in their 46 meetings at the time of writing, whilst England have 16. Steve Borthwick’s team will set their sights on another memorable and historic victory against South Africa on home soil in November 2024.
