2024 Autumn Nations Series Week Four

2024 Autumn Nations: Week 4 Preview

As we head into the final matches of this year’s Autumn Nations Series, here we take a look ahead at the action to come.

The final matches of the 2024 edition of the high profile and enthralling Autumn Nations Series are almost upon us, with the fourth round of games taking place from Friday 22nd November to Sunday 24th November. The final fixture will then take place on Saturday 30th November 2024.

The most recent round of action saw Scotland defeat Portugal in emphatic fashion at Murrayfield in Edinburgh, whilst Ireland recorded a victory in a tight, tense, and engrossing game at the iconic Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

As for England, they were narrowly defeated 20 – 29 by the reigning World Champions South Africa at Twickenham, whilst Wales fell to a 20 – 52 loss against Australia at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh Capital of Cardiff on Sunday afternoon.

Elsewhere, there were wins for France who beat New Zealand 30 – 29 in an incredible contest at the Stade de France in front of an 80,000 strong crowd, whilst Italy came out on top as 20 – 17 winners against Georgia in Genoa, Italy, at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

This week, Steve Borthwick’s England and Warren Gatland’s Wales will be looking to get back to winning way against Japan and South Africa respectively, whilst Ireland and Scotland will both seek a second win in as many games in the Autumn Nations Series.

Here, we are going to be taking a look ahead at the intense and enthralling action to come across the continent of Europe over the course of this weekend.

Scotland vs. Australia (Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh) – Sunday 24th November 2024, 13:40 KO

The first fixture that we are going to be taking a look at is the game that will see Gregor Townsend’s Scotland take on Joe Schmidt’s Australia at the iconic and historic Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in the City of Edinburgh on the afternoon of Sunday 24th November 2024. The game itself will be kicking off at 13:40.

A win for either one of these two international teams would see them end their 2024 Autumn Nations Series campaign on a significant high.

The most recent competitive fixture to have taken place in all competitions between Scotland and Australia was back in the 2022 edition of the Autumn Nations Series, where the Wallabies were able to just about come away as 15 – 16 winners.

Scotland’s most recent win against Australia came in the 2021 Autumn Internationals at Murrayfield when they were 15 – 13 winners against their Southern Hemisphere opponents in what was an enthralling and intense contest in Edinburgh.

England vs. Japan (Allianz Stadium, Twickenham) – Sunday 24th November 2024, 16:10 KO

The next game we are looking ahead to is the fixture between Steve Borthwick’s England and Japan, led by Eddie Jones, who was Borthwick’s predecessor at England. This contest will be taking place at the Allianz Stadium, Twickenham on the afternoon of Sunday 24th November 2024 at 16:10.

This looks set to be a great opportunity for England to get back to winning ways and end the Series in a positive manner. For Japan, this is just their second fixture (and their final) fixture of the 2024 Autumn Nations Series, and they themselves will want to emerge victorious following a 52 – 12 defeat against France at the Stade de France a few weeks ago.

Their most recent match did see them beat Uruguay 36 – 20 in a friendly fixture at the Municipal Stadium Chambery on Saturday 16th November 2024.

The most recent fixture to have taken place between England and Japan was back on 22nd June 2024 in what was a 52 – 17 friendly win for England that day.

Wales vs. South Africa (Principality Stadium, Cardiff) – Saturday 23rd November 2024, 17:40 KO

Warren Gatland and his Wales team will be looking to end their recent run of defeats when they come face to face with Rassie Erasmus’ South Africa side, who are the current World Champions after coming out on top in the most recent Rugby World Cup back in 2023.

This is a high profile fixture, and this is not only an opportunity to seal a much needed victory, but it is also a chance to secure what would be a statement victory against the Springboks at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. The game will be taking place at a 17:40 kick-off.

The most recent competitive fixture to have taken place between Wales and South Africa was in the Test Match at Twickenham Stadium in London back on 22nd June 2024. It was a 41 – 13 victory for South Africa that day, unfortunately for Warren Gatland and his side.

Wales’ last triumph against these opponents was in a 2022 Tour of South Africa at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein back on 16th July that year. It was a tight, competitive, and intense 12 – 13 victory for the visitors that day.

Ireland vs. Fiji (Aviva Stadium, Dublin) – Saturday 23rd November 2024, 15:10 KO

We now move on to the game between Andy Farrell’s Ireland and Mick Byrne’s Fiji at the Aviva Stadium in the City of Dublin on Saturday 23rd November 2024 in a 15:10 kick-off on that afternoon. Ireland will be looking to follow up their triumph against Argentina with yet another win, this time against the Flying Fijians.

This is a great opportunity for the hosts to continue the momentum and end their 2024 Autumn Nations Series on a high. From Fiji’s perspective, they are also in a positive run of form, having beaten Wales 19 – 24 in their most recent Autumn Nations Series game against Wales at the Principality Stadium.

Fiji has also recently secured victory against Spain in what was a friendly game that saw Fiji come away with a comfortable 19 – 33 victory in the end.

The most recent fixture between these two international teams was back in November 2022, which was an emphatic 35 – 17 win.
