When is the Grand National?

When is the Grand National 2021?

We sadly had to miss out on the 2020 Grand National as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. Although disappointing, the break gives us even more to look forward to for the 2021 Grand National!  The world’s most famous steeplechase is set to resume in 2021 and will once again bring fans from around the globe to Aintree Racecourse as three days of outstanding National Hunt Racing comes into view.

Grand National 2021 Dates

The opening fixture of the event, suitably renamed Liverpool’s NHS Day to honour NHS staff, commences on Thursday 8th April. Then follows Ladies Day on Friday 9th and finally Grand National Day itself on Saturday 10th.

The three-day meeting is renowned for hosting some spectacular racing spectacles, including the Betfred Bowl, the JLT Melling Chase and of course, the treasured Grand National race.

What Time is the Grand National?

The festival’s blue riband event, the Grand National, which takes place on Saturday 10th April, is set to commence in the evening!

The showcasing jumps race sees 40 runners take on the daunting obstacles of Aintree’s 30 fences over the course of four and a half miles.

With up to 150,000 racegoers expected to be in attendance across all three days – it certainly looks to be an occasion for all to cherish.

What to look forward to in the Grand National 2021

Undeniably, what racegoers were most looking forward to was the chance to witness the great Tiger Roll in action. The thoroughbred was on track to secure his third consecutive Grand National win for the 2020 meeting. No other horse has been able to secure this record. During the 1970’s, Red Rum, won the Grand National three times but not consecutively. Tiger Roll could be the first horse to secure this achievement, hence why the 2020 meeting was so anticipated.

Trainer Gordon Elliott stated that the right decision was made to cancel the 2020 Grand National and has said that Tiger Roll will be back for 2021. “There is every chance of him competing and he hasn’t got that many miles on the clock, and we will be training him back for the Grand National again.”
