Arsenal and Russell Martin’s newly promoted Southampton are set to go toe to toe at the Emirates Stadium in the 2024/25 Premier League season. Mikel Arteta’s Gunners will be looking to go one step further this term and secure the title, and all three points here against the Saints would enhance their chances of doing exactly that.

Last season’s second-place finish was the club’s second in as many seasons, and in 2023/24, they were even closer to winning the league than they had been the year before, with just 2 points separating them and Champions Manchester City at the season’s end. Arteta’s side will now be determined to end the Cityzens’ dominance of the English top flight this term.

There has been some excellent progress at Arsenal in recent years, and one of the major factors behind this Gunners renaissance is Head Coach Mikel Arteta, who succeeded Unai Emery at the Emirates Stadium back in December 2019. After 5th and 8th place finishes, the Spaniard has since re-established the club in the UEFA Champions League – hopes are high that further progress can be made in this competition, as well as the Premier League, in the 2024/25 season.

Silverware has also come Arsenal’s way under the stewardship of Mikel Arteta. They have won a record 14th FA Cup title after beating West London Rivals Chelsea 2 – 1 at Wembley Stadium in 2020. Two FA Community Shields have also been won, with the Gunners beating Liverpool and Manchester City, both on penalties, in 2020 and 2023, respectively.

Moving on to Southampton, current Manager Russell Martin has been in charge since his appointment back on Wednesday, 21st June 2023. Martin led the Saints on what was a club-record 25-game unbeaten run between September 2023 and February 2024, which eventually led to them securing 4th place and a spot in the EFL Championship’s promotion play-offs. An immediate return to the Premier League was secured in the Final at Wembley after Leeds United were beaten 1 – 0 with a goal in the first half from the Saints’ leading goal scorer Adam Armstrong (24’).

These two clubs have come face to face competitively on a total of 106 occasions, with Arsenal having the superior record of 53 wins compared to Southampton’s total of 23 wins. There have been 30 draws between the Gunners and the Saints over the years to date.

Arsenal and Southampton are set to meet once more in what is set to be an enthralling encounter at the Emirates Stadium in the 2024/25 Premier League season. Both clubs will be looking to enhance their chances of realising their respective ambitions for the season.
