David Moyes’ Everton are set to go toe to toe with a newly promoted Leeds United outfit led by their German Head Coach Daniel Farke at the all-new and modern Hill Dickinson Stadium in the heart of Merseyside, the new home of the Toffees, for a game that is going to be taking place during the 2025/26 Premier League season.
This season sees the Blues targeting a very respectable mid table finish, with them even having an eye of the possibility of ending up in the top half of the table by the time their latest top flight campaign comes to a close in May 2026. Victory here against their Yorkshire counterparts would see them take an important step closer to realising their ambitions for the season.
This will be the first time that these two clubs have come face to face at Everton’s new home, with the club having departed the historic Goodison Park at the end of last season. The modern Hill Dickinson Stadium is set to be a stadium with a great atmosphere, with it having a seated capacity of no less than 52,769 at the moment, and this is set to be no different for when these two meet in what is going to be a competitive and enthralling game.
David Moyes is, of course, the current Head Coach of Everton Football Club, and the Scot is currently in his second spell in charge of his club, with his return earlier this year having brought to an end his 12 year absence from them. He was originally in charge for more than a decade, from 2002 to 2013, when he departed to replace fellow Scot Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
During his original tenure at the club, there were a great number of iconic players that wore the colours of Everton during Moyes’ first spell, which included but is not limited to the likes of Tim Cahill, Wayne Rooney, David Unsworth, Thomas Gravesen, Tim Howard, Yakubu, Steven Pienaar, Phil Jagielka, Leighton Baines, as well as many more.
Between his first and second spells in charge of Everton, David Moyes has also been in charge as Head Coach of the likes of Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland, and West Ham United (twice), with the latter which winning a European trophy in the form of the 2023 UEFA Conference League Final after beating Italian Serie A side Fiorentina 2 – 1 thanks to goals from the likes of Said Benrahma (62’ – Penalty) and Jarrod Bowen (90’) respectively, whilst it was experienced midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura who scored what was the only goal on that day for La Viola in this game at the midway point of the second half, shortly after Benrahma’s opener for the Hammers (67’).
David Moyes’ return to Everton Football Club was officially confirmed back on 11th January 2025, with him succeeding the departing Sean Dyche as the new Head Coach. He had a great first few months in charge, with him guiding Everton from a relegation battle to safety, finishing the campaign in a very respectable 13th place with a grand total of 48 points to their name. They survived relegation by a margin of no less than 23 points in the end.
The 2025/26 campaign will be his first full campaign in charge ever since his return to the football club back in January 2025.
Moving on to Leeds United, their German Head Coach, Daniel Farke, has been in charge since he succeeded Sam Allardyce following relegation from the Premier League on July 4, 2023. His first campaign in charge, 2023/24 saw them get all the way to the 2024 EFL Championship Play-Off Final which they lost to Southampton.
Then last season, they more than made up for this by winning the EFL Championship title after having accumulated a total of no less than 100 points, but incredibly, they had only won it on goal difference over runners-up Burnley in second place, who were of course also automatically promoted.
The most recent competitive game between these two clubs was an encounter in the Premier League back on Saturday 18th February 2023 at the legendary Goodison Park, which was a 1 – 0 victory in the end for the Toffees, who got the winning goal thanks to defender Seamus Coleman, who scored the goal at the midway point of the second half (64’).
Overall, Everton and Leeds United have met competitively in all competitions on no less than 122 occasions, and it is Leeds who do have the superior record of 52 wins in total in this fixture, compared with a total of 36 wins for the Toffees against their Yorkshire counterparts to date. There have also been 34 draws between these two clubs so far, as of the time of writing.
