Most creative Premier League players this season

The Premier League is home to some of the most creative players in the world of football, and here we take a look at the players who have got the most assists in the English top flight so far.

It is a fact in football that no goal happens without an assist. A lot of goals have been scored in the Premier League, and all will have had someone passing to the eventual goal scorer. The English top flight has been home to some of the best passers and creators in the world and the history of the sport of football over the years.

If we look back at legends of the Premier League who were world class creators, only 2 players in the top ten all-time assists since 1992 are still playing today – Kevin De Bruyne (102) and James Milner (88). De Bruyne is level with Frank Lampard, whilst Milner has more Premier League assists than David Beckham (80) and the Englishman is only 4 behind Steven Gerrard (92).

At the time of writing, Manchester United and Wales legend Ryan Giggs leads the way in Premier League assists with no less than 162 during his 24 year spell playing for the Red Devils. Cesc Fabregas is second with 111, while Wayne Rooney is third on this all-time list for assists with 103.

As mentioned before, Kevin De Bruyne is level with Frank Lampard with 102 assists. However, since the Belgian midfield maestro is still playing, he will likely climb the all-time assist rankings for whatever remains of his career in the Premier League. The same goes for James Milner, although with retirement potentially coming soon, he may not have the time left in his career to climb much higher than 9th (88).

Now for the 2023/24 Premier League campaign. Here, we will look at the players with the most assists in the English top flight as of the time of writing.

4 – Leon Bailey (Aston Villa), Moussa Diaby (Aston Villa), Conor Gallagher (Chelsea), Erling Haaland (Manchester City), Andreas Pereira (Fulham), Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton) & Son Heung-Min (Spurs): 4 Assists

First up are the players with 4 assists each in the opening 16 games of the 2023/24 Premier League season. Aston Villa are flying high in third place with no less than 35 points to their name, and Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby, a 2023 summer side from Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen, have been crucial in the Villans’ tremendous season to date with 4 assists each.

Son Heung-Min has long been one of Spurs’ outstanding players, and he has been at his creative best this season, which has helped his team make a flying start to the campaign with the Lilywhites in the race for the UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea may be having an inconsistent season, but Conor Gallagher has been creative for them this term and leads the rest of the Blues squad in assists as of the time of writing.

Fulham and Brighton are flying high, and Andreas Pereira and Kaoru Mitoma have been key reasons as to why their respective clubs are both in the race to qualify for European football come the conclusion of the current campaign.

Liverpool, led by Jurgen Klopp, are well and truly in the midst of what looks set to be an enthralling and tense title race, and Darwin Nunez has not only scored 4 goals in 15 games, the forward has also come up with 5 assists.

Jeremy Doku joined Manchester City from Stade Rennais in the 2023 Summer Transfer Window, and he has been a creative force in Pep Guardiola’s side in the Premier League so far in this campaign.

Three players currently have the second most Premier League assists this season, with 6 assists each. Starting with Julian Alvarez, the Argentine World Cup winner has 4 goals in the league to go alongside his 6 assists.

Bukayo Saka has been a crucial player for Arsenal ever since he made his senior debut for the Gunners in 2019. The England international forward has also scored 5 goals in the 2023/24 campaign as of the time of writing.

Ollie Watkins has 6 assists for Unai Emery’s high-flying Villa, and he also leads the Villans’ squad in goals, too, with no less than 8 goals so far.

Now we are at the top spot in this list, and just 3 players in the English Top Flight have eight Premier League assists to date. Pedro Neto, who currently plays for mid-table Wolves, has 7 assists as he looks to help his team climb the table.

Kieran Trippier is a defender who is well-known for his creativity, especially from crosses. He is an integral part of Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, who are looking to replicate the stunning 2022/23 season that they had.

Finally, there is Mohamed Salah, who has recently reached 200 goals in all competitions for Liverpool, who he joined from Italian side AS Roma back in July 2017. The Egyptian forward leads the way in goals (11) and assists (7) for his team so far.

Creativity is vital for goalscoring, and the teams with the most creative and clinical players will likely go on and have a successful season in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.
