Now, we going to take a look ahead at some of the most eye-catching festive fixtures to come in the 2024/25 Premier League season over the course of the remainder of December 2024.
Aston Villa vs. Manchester City (Villa Park) – Saturday 21st December, 12:30 KO
The first game we are looking ahead at is the one between Unai Emery’s Aston Villa and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday 21st December, in what will be a 12:30 kick-off that afternoon.
This will be the first fixture to have taken place between these two clubs in the league this season, and this fixture is important for both clubs, with them sitting in 7th and 5th place respectively as of the time of writing. Villa will be looking to strengthen their hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification via a top four finish, whilst the Cityzens will seek to narrow the gap between themselves and their title rivals.
The last time that these two teams met in a competitive fixture at Villa Park was back on 6th December 2024, when a goal from Leon Bailey in the second half turned out to be the winning goal (74’), with Emery’s Villa coming away with a 1 – 0 win in B6 that day.
Spurs vs. Liverpool (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) – Sunday 22nd December, 16:30 KO
Next up is the crucial contest between Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs and Arne Slot’s Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London on Sunday 22nd December 2024, with the game kicking off at 16:30 that afternoon.
Postecoglou and his Tottenham side are currently targeting a top four finish in order to qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League, and all three points against Liverpool would most certainly not only be three points closer to this ultimate goal, but it would also be a statement result against the Reds for the Lilywhites. As for Liverpool, they will be looking to strengthen their position at the top of the table, as well as potentially extending their points advantage over second place.
The last league meeting at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw the home side emerge as 2 – 1 winners against their Merseyside rivals in North London on 30th September 2023 thanks to a goal from Son Heung-Min (36’), as well as an own goal from now former Reds central defender Joel Matip (90+6’).
Chelsea vs. Fulham (Stamford Bridge) – Thursday 26th December, 15:00 KO
Next up is what is set to be a fiercely competitive West London Derby between Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea and Marco Silva’s Fulham at Stamford Bridge where three points are not the only thing at stake – so the three points, of course. The game will be taking place on Thursday 26th December in what will be a 15:00 kick-off in West London.
The Blues are most certainly in a title race in the Premier League as things stand, with the club now sat in second place with a grand total of no less than 34 points, just 2 points adrift of current league leaders Liverpool, led by Dutchman Arne Slot, on 36 points overall. A win would potentially see them leapfrog the Reds in the table. As for Fulham, they are in the race for European Football, and they will be able to cement themselves a place in the top six if they get a win against their West London neighbours at Stamford Bridge.
The most recent meeting in the Premier League between Chelsea and Fulham saw the Blues earn a 1 – 0 win at Stamford Bridge thanks to a winning goal from Cole Palmer, who scored from the penalty spot in first half stoppage time (45+4’).
Nottingham Forest vs. Spurs (City Ground) – Thursday 26th December, 15:00 KO
Finally, the final match that we are going to take a deeper look at here is the one that sees Nuno Espirito Santos Nottingham Forest take on Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs at the City Ground on Thursday 26th December 2024 in what will be a 15:00 Kick-Off.
Nottingham Forest are the surprise package of the 2024/25 Premier League season, and the Reds currently find themselves all the way up in 4th place as things stand, with a total of no less than 28 points to their name to date, as of the time of writing. With all three points, they could find themselves leapfrogging Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal into third place if other results also go their way, but they will, at the very least, solidify their place in the Premier League’s top four in fourth place overall. As for Spurs, Postecoglou’s side would see them climb up into the top six if other results go their way, but they will at the very least narrow the gap between themselves and European Qualification.
The most recent Premier League meeting between these two clubs at the City Ground saw Spurs beat Nottingham Forest 2 – 0 thanks to goals from Richarlison (45+2’) and Dejan Kulusevski (65’) on 15th December 2023.
Spurs were also victorious in their most recent Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest, which was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London on 7th April 2024. It was a 3 – 1 win on this occasion for Ange Postecoglou’s Lilywhites, who scored when they found the net through an own goal from Forest’s Brazilian Central Defender Murillo (15’), as well as goals from Micky van de Ven (52’), and Pedro Porro (58’) on 7th April 2024.
