England Name Squad for Pakistan Series Finale at Edgbaston as Brydon Carse Left Out

England have named a 15-player squad for the third and final Test against Pakistan at Edgbaston, with Brydon Carse again absent and Sonny Baker retaining his place.

 

Joe Root’s side head to Edgbaston with an unassailable 2-0 series lead following victories at Headingley and Lord’s. England will have the opportunity to complete a clean sweep when the final Test gets underway on Wednesday 9th September, while a much-changed Pakistan side will be looking to end the series with a response.

Brydon Carse Left Out of England Squad

Carse remains out of the England squad after he was initially withdrawn ahead of the second Test at Lord’s.

The 31-year-old Durham fast bowler was briefly arrested following an incident outside a nightclub in Derby on 22nd August.

Carse has remained available for his county and returned to action for Durham against Gloucestershire last week, recording match figures of 4-95 in their victory.

However, he has not been recalled by England for the Edgbaston Test.

Sonny Baker, who replaced Carse in the squad for Lord’s, has retained his place in the 15-man group.

The 23-year-old Hampshire seamer made his Test debut earlier this summer against New Zealand at The Oval and provides England with another option should they decide to alter their pace attack for the final match of the Pakistan series.

Surrey fast bowler Matthew Fisher is the other player to drop out of the squad, with the remainder of the group unchanged.

England Have Options Ahead of Final Test

With the series already secured, England could use the Edgbaston Test as an opportunity to manage the workload of their seamers.

Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue have all been included in the squad, although all three are also involved in England’s limited-overs plans as six white-ball internationals against Sri Lanka follow the Test series.

Baker and Sam Cook provide alternative seam options should England decide to rotate their attack.

Cook, 29, has made one Test appearance, against Zimbabwe in 2025, while Derbyshire spinner Shoaib Bashir is also waiting for his first appearance of the current Pakistan series.

England have opted for an all-pace attack during the opening two Tests, but Bashir gives Root another option should conditions at Edgbaston favour the inclusion of a specialist spinner.

The batting group remains unchanged, with Harry Brook, Ben Duckett, Emilio Gay, Dan Lawrence, Ollie Pope, Jordan Cox and Jamie Smith all included alongside captain Root.

England have already wrapped up the series after recording two convincing victories over Pakistan.

The hosts dominated the opening Test at Headingley, winning by an innings and 103 runs, before securing the series with a 194-run victory at Lord’s.

That leaves Pakistan playing for pride at Edgbaston, while another England victory would complete a 3-0 series clean sweep.

The circumstances could also allow England to make changes without the pressure of the series being on the line, although Root’s side will still be looking to finish their home Test programme with another positive result.

Edgbaston has confirmed that play in the third Test is scheduled to begin at 11am, with the match running from Wednesday 9th to Sunday 13th September.

Pakistan Make Sweeping Changes Before Edgbaston

Pakistan have responded to their defeats by making substantial changes ahead of the final Test.

Seven players have been released from their squad, including Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Ali Usman and Khurram Shahzad, all of whom have featured during the series.

Five uncapped players have been brought into the touring party as Pakistan look for a different formula in Birmingham.

There have also been changes behind the scenes, with Pakistan restructuring their coaching set-up before the final Test.

The scale of the changes adds another element to the Edgbaston contest as Pakistan attempt to avoid a third successive defeat and England look to maintain the form that has already secured the series.
