England remain unchanged for second test versus India
Following an incredible victory at Headingley last week, England’s line-up for this week’s second test at Edgbaston is unchanged as they look to take a 2 – 0 series lead.
England are currently taking on rivals India over the course of a series of five test matches across the United Kingdom, and they will be looking to emerge with a statement victory following the conclusion of the fifth and final test match at The Oval, which begins in late July.
So far, the odds are very much in England’s favour following the first test, which was played at the historic Headingley over five days from Friday 20th June to Tuesday 24th June 2025, which saw the two sides take part in what was a thrilling contest that saw two of the best teams in test cricket go head to head.
In the first test, England was able to eventually come away with a five wicket triumph following an intense five days – and it also featured a historic performance from batter Ben Duckett who managed no less than 149 runs to lead his side to a target of 371 in one of the finest run chases of all time. It is England’s second highest successful pursuit of all time, with a 378 against these same opponents at Edgbaston just three years previously.
Duckett’s 149 is the second highest score for an England batter, with the only player to have beaten this score being Mark Butcher with 173 when England beat Australia 24 years ago in 2001.
Joe Root remained unbeaten in the first test on 53 runs, whilst Jamie Smith remained composed as well as he was able to deliver 44 runs of his own in his contribution to this incredible victory for England.
England’s five wicket victory came with no less than 14 overs remaining in this match, with the hosts also scoring at a rate of 4.55.
England will now go into the second of their five match test series against rivals India at Edgbaston looking to make it two wins from two and give themselves what would be a commanding 2 – 0 lead over their opponents.
Taking place over five days, the second test will be played from Wednesday 2nd July to Sunday 6th July 2025 at the historic Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
The England XI for this latest contest against India is set to remain unchanged as they look to continue the momentum created from their victory in the first test last week. The team selected by Brendon McCullum will be as follows: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (Captain), Jamie Smith (Wicket Keeper), Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir.
Anticipation and excitement are building rapidly ahead of this second Rothesay Test Match against one of England’s biggest rivals, India. Fans will be watching on as their side looks to repeat the feat at Headingley last week as they look to gain further control of this test series that they hope they will go on to win overall.
