Husqvarna British Masters 2026 Preview: Patrick Reed, Tyrell Hatton and Luke Donald Headline The Belfry Field

The Husqvarna British Masters returns to The Belfry this week, with a strong field set to take on the famous Brabazon Course and compete for valuable Race to Dubai and Ryder Cup points.

The tournament gets underway with the Pro-Am on Wednesday, August 26, before championship play runs from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30.

Among the headline names is former Masters champion Patrick Reed, who arrives at The Belfry looking to strengthen his position at the top of the Race to Dubai standings.

Reed has enjoyed an excellent season so far, recording two victories, a runner-up finish and two further top-10 results. The American is also targeting a return to the PGA Tour and will hope to put himself back in contention for a place on the United States Ryder Cup team.

“I’m looking forward to returning to the United Kingdom and teeing it up in the British Masters,” said Reed. “It’s been a really enjoyable season and hopefully we can continue the momentum at The Belfry. It is an iconic venue, and I can’t wait for the test of the Brabazon in front of the British fans.”

The British Masters represents an important stage of the DP World Tour season, with the event marking the start of the Back 9 and increased ranking points available as players battle for their positions in the Race to Dubai.

The season will eventually conclude with the Dubai Championship and DP World Tour Championship in November, while the next Ryder Cup cycle is already beginning to take shape ahead of the 2027 contest at Adare Manor.

Luke Donald returns to The Belfry

Luke Donald will make his third consecutive appearance in the British Masters at The Belfry, with the former world number one bringing plenty of Ryder Cup experience to the field.

Donald has been appointed Europe’s captain for the 2027 Ryder Cup after leading the side to victories at Marco Simone in 2023 and Bethpage Black in 2025. He will therefore have an obvious interest in the players looking to put themselves in contention for places on his next team.

The tournament does, however, clash with the season-ending Tour Championship at East Lake, meaning Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood and Matthew Fitzpatrick will not be part of the field.

Andy Sullivan looking for home success

Andy Sullivan is another player with plenty of experience at The Belfry and will be hoping to turn that into a first British Masters victory.

The four-time DP World Tour winner has recorded four top-10 finishes in the tournament, including fifth place last year.

Sullivan currently sits eighth in the rankings following a strong start to the campaign, highlighted by his runner-up finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic in January.

The Englishman has already tasted victory on home soil, winning the English Championship at Hanbury Manor in 2020, and will be hoping for another success in front of friends and family.

“The British Masters is a special event on the schedule and I’m excited to tee it up in front of my home fans again,” Sullivan said. “I’m fortunate enough to have won on home soil in the past, but to win so close to home in front of my friends and family would be very special.”

Danny Willett returns to a familiar venue

Danny Willett will also be one of the home favourites at The Belfry.

The 2016 Masters champion has a particularly strong connection with the British Masters after hosting the tournament in 2021 and 2022. The eight-time DP World Tour winner is now hoping to create another memorable week at a venue close to where he grew up.

“The Husqvarna British Masters is a tournament that means a lot to me, and I can’t wait to get back to The Belfry,” said Willett. “It’s obviously an iconic club that I’m proud to be attached to and local to where I’m from in England. Hosting it in 2021 and 2022 was a real honour and the support I’ve always felt from the fans has been incredible.

“Sir Nick Faldo took on hosting duties from me a few years ago and has taken it from strength to strength. I’ve seen first-hand what goes into hosting an event of this size and it is no mean feat, so credit to him and his team for all the time and effort they put in.”

Tyrrell Hatton provides an intriguing storyline

Tyrrell Hatton will be another player worth watching as he returns to DP World Tour action following the conclusion of the LIV Golf season.

The Englishman entered the British Masters before LIV confirmed that its season-ending team championship would not be taking place, adding an interesting subplot to his appearance at The Belfry.

Hatton has eight DP World Tour victories to his name and is an established Ryder Cup player, while speculation continues over whether he could eventually seek a route back to the PGA Tour.

His presence should add another layer of interest to an already strong British Masters field.
