Jannik Sinner Wins Italian Open to Seal Career Golden Masters

Jannik Sinner sealed his place in tennis history after winning the Italian Open to complete the career Golden Masters set.
The historic achievement makes Sinner just the second man to complete the set, after Novak Djokovic.
Alongside winning the nine 1000 titles, Sinner has now won six in a row after defeating Casper Ruud in front of a passionate Italian crowd in Rome.
Sinner never looked to be in any true danger of missing out on this year’s Italian Open, with him winning 6-4 6-4, showing his full arsenal of shots, unlocking Ruud with drop shots throughout the contest.
“I’m really, really happy – it’s been an incredible last two and a half months,” said Sinner, who has also won the Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo and Madrid Masters titles this season.
“There has been a lot of tension – especially here in the final. But it’s a learning process. I can’t know everything at 24 years old.”
The speed at which Sinner has completed the career Golden Masters has impressed many the most.
He only won his first Masters title in 2023, when he reached the Canada Open final, beating Alex de Minaur 6-4 6-1.
Securing the clean sweep at a considerably younger age than Djokovic further adds to the Italian’s accomplishment.
Djokovic was 31 when he created history by winning the 2018 Cincinnati Open, before he repeated the feat – winning all nine events at least twice – aged 33 in 2020.
After all of his achievements so early on in his career, many will be asking just how many honors can Sinner go on to collect.
With wins at the US Open, Wimbledon and two triumphs at the Australian Open, the Italian is just a French Open away from Tennis immortality.
If he were to go on and win at Roland-Garros, he would become just the tenth man to complete the career Grand Slam.
Many people see Carlos Alcaraz as Sinner’s greatest rival and expect the pair to go head-to-head for the next decade, but for now the Spaniard has been plagued with injuries, allowing Sinner to be mainly unchallenged in the biggest moments.
If Sinner does lift the Coupe des Mousquetaires on 7 June, it will leave him only an Olympic gold medal away from completing the full house of the sport’s biggest individual prizes.
