Bow Echo quickly put distance between himself and his rivals, cruising clear to record a four-and-a-half-length success and provide an early indication of his potential.

His second appearance saw him step up into Listed company in the Ascendant Stakes, where he was sent off the 5/6 favourite ahead of Juddmonte’s Publish.

Publish moved past Bow Echo with half a furlong to run, but Loughnane’s mount refused to surrender his unbeaten record. He rallied strongly under pressure, regained the advantage and battled on to score by a length.

Puerto Rico then opened a gap for stablemate Gstaad, who had enjoyed a favourable passage along the inside.

Bow Echo responded when it mattered most, coming over the top and hitting the front with a furlong to run.

Gstaad refused to give up and rallied strongly on the inside, setting up a dramatic finish. Bow Echo held on by a short head to preserve his unbeaten record and claim another major victory.

Bow Echo bows out with Sussex Stakes glory

Bow Echo’s sixth race would ultimately prove to be his last, but he signed off in the perfect fashion.

Gstaad was once again in opposition in the Sussex Stakes, setting up the third and final instalment of their rivalry.

George Boughey once again got the better of Aidan O’Brien, with Bow Echo producing perhaps his most impressive performance yet when circumstances appeared to be against him.

Loughnane found himself caught in traffic during the race and was forced to bide his time rather than immediately unleash his mount.

When the opportunity finally arrived, the jockey produced Bow Echo with impeccable timing.

The colt surged forward, quickened past Gstaad in the closing stages and held on to win by half a length.
