T20 Blast Finals Day confirmed after dramatic quarter-final action
The line-up for the 2026 T20 Blast Finals Day is now complete after four entertaining quarter-finals produced plenty of drama, standout individual performances and a remarkable comeback that will be remembered for years to come.
Defending champions Somerset kept their title defence alive in extraordinary fashion, Notts Outlaws held their nerve in a thriller against Surrey, Hampshire Hawks produced a dominant display to sweep aside Essex, while Northamptonshire Steelbacks comfortably booked their place in the final four.
The four sides will now head to Edgbaston on Saturday, 18 July, with the T20 Blast trophy firmly in their sights.
Overton produces Headingley miracle for Somerset
Somerset looked to be heading out of the competition after Yorkshire reduced them to 82-8 while defending a modest total of 161 at Headingley.
Earlier, Yorkshire had struggled to build momentum with the bat despite Adam Lyth making 64. Somerset’s bowling attack shared the wickets around, with Jake Ball claiming 3-30, while Riley Meredith, Daniel Sams and Craig Overton all picked up two wickets apiece.
The reply quickly unravelled. England’s Tom Banton was dismissed for just one after being released to play the fixture, while Thomas Rew, James Rew, Will Smeed, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Lewis Gregory and Daniel Sams all departed cheaply as Somerset slipped to 59-7.
When they still needed 80 runs from the final 27 deliveries, Yorkshire appeared certain to be heading through.
Instead, Overton produced one of the finest innings in T20 Blast history.
The all-rounder blasted an astonishing 79 from just 30 balls, smashing eight fours and five sixes to record his maiden T20 Blast half-century. With Somerset needing 22 from the final over, Overton launched three sixes to complete an incredible turnaround and seal victory.
The win sends Somerset to Finals Day for the sixth consecutive season as they continue their pursuit of a third T20 Blast title in four years.
Notts Outlaws survive Surrey fightback
Notts Outlaws edged into the semi-finals after defeating Surrey by seven runs in a gripping contest at Trent Bridge.
Jack Haynes anchored the Outlaws innings with an unbeaten 75 as the hosts posted 163.
Surrey looked to be cruising towards victory after Jason Roy struck 76 and Laurie Evans added 40 in a century opening partnership.
However, the momentum shifted dramatically once the breakthrough arrived.
Olly Stone delivered a superb final over, taking two wickets as Surrey fell agonisingly short despite needing just 12 runs from the final six balls.
Binura Fernando and George Linde both claimed two wickets to help Notts reach Finals Day for the first time since their title-winning campaign in 2020.
Vince brilliance powers Hampshire through
Hampshire Hawks booked their place in the semi-finals with an emphatic 75-run victory over Essex at the Utilita Bowl.
James Vince was in sensational form, hammering 125 from only 61 deliveries, the second-highest individual score in this season’s T20 Blast.
Joe Weatherley provided excellent support with a rapid 46 as the pair shared a 117-run partnership to help Hampshire post an imposing 211.
Essex never recovered from a blistering opening spell by Sonny Baker.
The recent England Test debutant tore through the top order to finish with outstanding figures of 5-24, while James Fuller added two wickets of his own. Charlie Allison’s 44 proved the only real resistance as Hampshire secured another convincing Finals Day appearance.
The victory means Hampshire have now qualified for Finals Day for the 12th time, matching Somerset’s competition record.
Steelbacks continue impressive campaign
Northamptonshire Steelbacks carried their outstanding group-stage form into the knockout rounds with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Gloucestershire.
Gloucestershire were immediately under pressure after slipping to 5-2 before falling further to 20-3.
Ben Charlesworth’s well-made 68 and captain Jack Taylor’s 22 steadied the innings for a while, but once Taylor departed, Northants regained control and bowled their opponents out for 152.
Ben Sanderson starred with the ball, finishing with impressive figures of 4-20.
David Willey led the way with an unbeaten 47, while Ricardo Vasconcelos made 42 and Nathan McSweeney added 28 as Northants eased home with eight wickets to spare.
There was one concern after Chris Lynn retired hurt on 18 following a blow to the toe, but it did little to dampen another impressive Steelbacks display.
Northamptonshire have now reached Finals Day for the second successive season and remain firmly in contention for a third T20 Blast crown.
