Saracens v Northampton Saints Hospitality – The Showdown 6 – Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
The Showdown is set to take place for the sixth time, and it is set to return on Saturday 28th March 2026, with the game getting underway at 18:00. Saracens and the Northampton Saints are set to come face to face once more in North London as two of the best teams in the country battle for glory.
The origins of this annual event can be traced back to 2004, when Saracens started to host matches at Twickenham frequently. During the 2009/10 season, exhibition matches were organised between a few Premiership sides and teams from South Africa, which were played at Wembley.
‘Derby Day’ was then introduced as an annual event in 2012, with Saracens’ regular opponents being Harlequins. Incredibly, the three derby day encounters between these two teams between 2012 and 2015 broke the world record for club rugby attendance on all three occasions. The event moved on to the London Stadium in 2018, where it would stay until 2019.
2019 saw Saracens sign a partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, which saw them start to host annual fixtures called ‘The Showdown’. The first-ever Showdown fixture took place on 22nd August 2020, which saw Saracens win 38 – 24 against Harlequins at Allianz Park (The pandemic prevented this match from being hosted at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium).
The Bristol Bears were Saracens’ opponents in the second ‘Showdown’, played on 26th March 2022. In a tight and competitive contest, Saracens again came out on top, securing a 27 – 23 victory.
Saracens completed their third successive ‘Showdown’ victory on 25th March 2023. It was a rivalry renewed with Harlequins once again the opponents. It was a 36 – 24 victory for Saracens in front of a 55,109 strong crowd.
Then came the Showdown back in 2024 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium saw Saracens emerge with a simply incredible and record breaking 52 – 7 victory against Harlequins in North London in front of crowd of more than 61,000 which is also a record. It was a sensational way to mark Owen Farrell’s 250th game for Harlequins.
The most recent Showdown between Saracens and Harlequins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium took place back on Saturday 22nd March 2025, and on this occasion it was the latter who came away victorious, with Harlequins getting some revenge of their rivals thanks to a tight and intense 12 -23 victory in North London. It was a sensational victory for Harlequins, who fought back to complete a late comeback in the latter stages of this enthralling contest. Victory came thanks mainly to the efforts of fly-half Jamie Benson, who scored two tries and as well as no less than three penalties to boot. He had come on as a substitute for Harlequins at half time. Saracens have won 4 of their last 5 competitive encounters against Harlequins.
There was also a very strong crowd in attendance once again, with no less than 54,414 passionate fans turning up from across the country and the world to attend this fantastic event.
The recent head-to-head record between these two clubs in their last five league meetings has been one-sided, with Saracens winning 4 of their last five competitive encounters.
The 2026 Showdown will see Saracens take on the Northampton Saints. The last time that these two sides met in the Showdown was back in September 2009 at Wembley, where they were narrowly beaten 19 – 16 by Saracens.
However, their last competitive encounter was in a Gallagher Premiership game towards the end of last season, where it was the Saints who came away as 28 – 24 winners in what was a tight, tense, and highly competitive game at the Cinch Stadium at Franklin’s Gardens.
Saracens will face the Northampton Saints in ‘Showdown 6’. Will Saracens emerge victorious, or will the Northampton Saints take home the win?
