Spurs, led by Danish Head Coach Thomas Frank, will face off against Jacob Neestrup’s Copenhagen, the reigning Danish Champions. This game will be taking place at the iconic Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London, and the Lilywhites will be looking to confirm their place in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League knockout stages automatically with a top-eight finish in this season’s league phase.

A win in this match would, of course, create some fresh momentum for their European campaign, and Frank’s side will, of course, be looking to go as far as possible in this season’s competition. They will be hoping to at least reach the quarter-final, though, of course, they could progress further than that, and momentum would be key in progressing.

Qualification for this season’s UEFA Champions League was sealed for Spurs thanks to a historic 1 – 0 win in the 2025 UEFA Europa League Final against fellow Premier League and European heavyweights Manchester United in Bilbao, Spain. The winning goal for the North London club was scored by their Welsh international forward Brennan Johnson just before the whistle went for the half time break towards the end of the first half (42’).

Spurs are most certainly a club with a European pedigree. In the past, they have won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup (1962/63), whilst they have also won the UEFA Cup, now the UEFA Europa League – they of course most recently won this trophy in 2025, but they have also lifted in 1972 and 1984. They have also memorably made it all the way to the final of the UEFA Champions League in recent years.

Back in 2019, Tottenham reached the final, where they faced fellow English club Liverpool and were defeated 2–0. The run to this particular final saw them get the better of Dutch Giants Ajax in particularly memorable fashion over the two legs of the semi finals. In the first leg, Spurs were indeed defeated 1 – 0 by the club from Amsterdam.

Then in the second leg, Spurs did go two goals down thanks to the goals of Matthijs de Ligt (5’) and Hakim Ziyech (35’) in the first half. Then, a superb and historic hat-trick from Lucas Moura (55’, 59’, 90+6’) drew Tottenham level on aggregate at 3 – 3, which saw them advance to the grand final on the away goals rule.

Moving on to Copenhagen, they too are a club that consistently qualifies for European Competitions in recent years. Led by Jacob Neestrup, they are currently the reigning Champions of Denmark after they were able to secure a points total of no less than 63 points from their 32 matches – they only won the title by one point in the end, with Midtjylland ending up as runners-up after finishing in second place in the end on 62 points overall.

The furthest the Danish club has ever made it in the UEFA Champions League is the Round of 16, which was back in the 2023/24 season, which saw them knocked out by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 6 – 2 on aggregate over two legs.

This will be the first time that Tottenham and Copenhagen have ever met in this competition to date, and Spurs will hope that they can emerge victorious from their maiden encounter in the Champions League against their Danish counterparts.
